ACTAS roar back to top of Women’s JPL (ACT)
JOMA Women’s Futsal Premier League Round 12 – Review
ACTAS roared back to the top of the JOMA Women’s Premier League but only goal difference separates the leading three clubs with Tuggeranong United Vogue only a point further adrift as the battle for where clubs will finish on the ladder intensifies.
Hayley Armstrong did most of the damage for ACTAS in their 8-0 victory over Belconnen United getting a hat-trick and being joined amongst the goals by Ashleigh Palombi, whose brace takes her to fourteen goals for the season, only one behind the leading scorers, Catherine Brown, Julia De Angelis and Natalie De Marco. Brown’s goal was her tenth of the season and the win certainly did ACTAs goal difference no harm as they currently have eighteen more goals in the bank than second placed WVFC Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves, who led the table last week, fought out a 2-2 draw with third placed Boomerangs FS as both teams flexed their muscles before the finals. Erin Clout and Emma Thornton were the goal getters for the Timberwolves with their eighth and ninth of the season respectively whilst Becky Roche was at the double for the Boomerangs to earn them a valuable two points.
Tuggeranong United Vogue remains in fourth place but have cut the gap on the leading trio to a solitary point after their 9-0 blitz of Belconnen United Sparks. Sabrina Spinapolice moved level at the top of the Golden Boot standings with a hat-trick to take her to fifteen goals for the campaign whilst Nicole Somi added a brace. Natalie Lacey also bagged two and there was one apiece for Michelle Thompson, a regular scorer, and Vanh Manthongsy.
Hayley Buckingham was in sparkling form for Players FC in the final match of the round as they defeated Tuggeranong United 7-2. Buckingham was relentless in front of goal, scoring four times, as Players FC romped to victory. Aurelia Bullot added two to the score with the seventh goal netted by Gemma Matheson. In reply Aleisha Tupper pulled one back for Tuggeranong while an own goal completed the scoring.
With only three rounds remaining it’s all to play for in the top four as teams jostle for position and look towards the semi-finals.
