The inaugural final of Futsal was held at the PCYC. The initial season was a resounding success with all the children enjoying the challenge of a new sport.

In the final Barcelona played Arsenal.

This was an extremely close tussle with Arsenal opening the scoring and were able to hold on to a 1-nil lead at half time.

The first half featured some extremely good defence with Arsenal’s Jack Swords proving very effective at the back and some extremely good goalkeeping by Mitchell Sandry.

The second half started the same way.

At the five-minute mark Arsenal were able to extend their lead to 2-nil.

The Barcelona giant woke from his slumber and started building up the pressure, and with five minutes remaining they were able to bridge the gap to 2-1.

With 90 seconds to go and still behind by one goal Nick Boyd sprung into action and equalized.

As the coaches were contemplating extra-time Boyd exploded and added two goals in the last 30 seconds with the final result being Barcelona 4 Arsenal 2.

There were two preliminary games with a late goal by Joshua Jones giving Manchester United a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid.

The first game of the night was between Chelsea and Liverpool.

We were able to bring a guest goalkeeper Tracey Sales to Mudgee to illustrate the intricacies of Futsal keeping.

No matter how hard star striker Will Toovey of Chelsea tried to get the ball in the net, Tracey was able to demonstrate her wide range of skills to keep the ball out of the net.

We would like to thank Tracey for her attendance.

She is probably the premier Futsal keeper in rural NSW and had to navigate the floods to get here.

We would like to thank all the parents who have assisted to make Futsal a success this year.

Next year a new season will be commencing in February and we will be expanding the competition to have individual age groups starting at under-7s.
