Prawns edge Tigers in nine-goal JPL thriller (ACT)
JOMA Futsal Premier League Mens Round 12 – Review
Canberra City Prawns have edged out the Cooma Tigers 5-4 in the latest round of fast-flowing Futsal in the JOMA Premier League. Pat Ross-Magee, a Futsalroo international, was unstoppable for the Prawns scoring four times to take his season total to fourteen as the Prawns always kept one step ahead of their Cooma counterparts. Whilst Ross-Magee was in scintillating form for Canberra City, the Tigers shared their goals around the team with Ian Elliot, Goran Josifovski, Marcial Munoz and Dale Schoon all scoring one goal each. Rory Devlin added the other Prawns goal as the team in second place won out in a nine-goal thriller. The result drops Cooma into fifth place with time running out if they are to claim a finals place.
TUFC Gunners are another who could be in danger of missing out on finals football after they were beaten 4-3 by Belconnen United. The Blue Devils, who are the holders of the JOMA Futsal Premier League crown, were desperate to win having been blown away in midweek by the Canberra Olympic Supercats in a catch-up match. Jason O’Dwyer, who scored in the 8-3 reverse to the Supercats, was in goal scoring form again bagging a hat-trick against the Gunners and he was joined on the score sheet by Taylor Beaton. It was another ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ showing from the talented Beaton though who marred his game by being sent off for two yellow card offences. Jackson Kupke, Peter McLachlan and Matt Menser scored for the Gunners but to no avail.
The Supercats meanwhile look unstoppable at the top of the table having won twice this week and struck eighteen goals in the process! Elia Sallloum was left celebrating two four-goal hauls in successive matches, and a place as leading goal scorer in the competition with 22, following his bagful in the 8-3 win over Belconnen and a repeat feat against WVFC Timberwolves. Scott Manson (3) and Lee Pietrukowski were the other Supercats scorers against the Blue Devils whilst Manson smashed a further four in the 10-3 rout of the Timberwolves to enjoy a sensational week in front of goal himself. Kole Aitken, Jeoff Noja and Grant Davoren were on target for the hapless Timberwolves outfit which remains rooted to the foot of the table.
In the last match of the round the Boomerangs FS and ANU FC shared two points each after playing an intriguing 3-3 draw. Sam Smith (2) and Glenn Smith were the scorers for the Boomerangs with Lukas Cole (2) and William Sheppard on target for the Students. ANU FC remains in sixth place, one spot immediately above their opponents.
