Supercats and Prawns in JOMA PL showdown (ACT)
ACT Mens Premier League Grand Final positions decided
The Canberra Olympic Supercats and Canberra City Prawns will meet in a high octane JOMA Premier League Grand Final at the AIS Training Hall after an exhibition of Futsal at its finest in the semi-finals stages on Thursday evening.
The battle for the Golden Boot will also go to the wire after a hat-trick from Supercats’ Scott Manson took him to 26 goals for the season, one ahead of team mate Elia Salloum. Manson’s hat-trick was added to by Lee Pietrukowski as the Supercats outfought the Cooma Tigers 4-2 in a high-quality match. Dale Schoon and Tony Aleksovski, with his sixteenth goal of the year, gave the Tigers some chance of success but the Supercats, who have suffered only one loss all year, held on to advance to the Grand Final.
In the second semi-final a George Cattanach hat-trick was the highlight as the Canberra City Prawns, the only team to defeat the Supercats all season, saw off the challenge of TUFC Gunners 4-2. Cattanach’s treble was added to by a goal from young Ryan Keir as the Prawns made the most of the large court playing a quick-passing, high-tempo match. The Gunners were typically tenacious in defeat with James McLachlan scoring two goals for the Tuggeranong team who just failed to get over the line.
