Summer 2010/2011 Season Recommencement Delayed 1 week

In light of the recent flooding that has affected many suburbs near the Brisbane River, and the ongoing cleanup and recovery efforts that are the focus of much of Brisbane, the management team at Brisbane Magic Futsal have agreed to delay restart of the current summer competition by 1 week. Where possible, we will adjust the few remaining rounds to accommodate all scheduled fixtures. In cases where this is not possible, affected fixtures will be assigned as 3-3 draws. The facilities at Colmslie have come through this crisis well and we are looking forward to seeing some quality futsal played as we approach the end of this season.

We would also like to offer our most heartfelt sympathies to all those families throughout Queensland, Northern NSW, Victoria and Tasmania that have been affected by these tragic events, and wish everyone a complete and speedy recovery.

Brisbane Magic Players excel in Canberra at FFA National Futsal Championships

Brisbane Magic Futsal has once again been well represented amongst futsals elite at the FFA National Futsal Championships held in Canberra from 10th to 14th January 2011. The week saw teams from every state in Australia, as well as from Auckland and Solomon Islands, compete for honours in divisions ranging from u11’s through to Open ages. The great sense of healthy competition and community spirit was present throughout the competition as all players and teams gave nothing less than their best all week.

Sadly for the Queensland Open Womens team, defending champions of the 2010 Championships, attrition and injuries saw them knocked out in the semi finals. So too were the Youth Men, leaving only the u15 Girls to challenge for the title of National Champions. Whilst the u15 Girls were first to score and saw a great many more opportunities to increase their lead, the final result went in favour of NSW Thunder, leaving the Girls to stand tall as Runners Up.

In most cases, the results did not indicate the difference in quality between teams, merely the level of experience and all of the Queensland players, managers and coaches have brought back invaluable knowledge and lessons learned that will continue to see our sport evolve and improve locally.

As Manager of Brisbane Magic Futsal, and part of the delegation from Queensland, I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the parents, players, coaches and association members that took the time to express their sympathy for the victims of the recent natural disaster that has been on everyones minds. It is a testament to the sportsmanship and humanity of our Futsal Family that we can remain competitive whilst showing compassion and empathy for our fellow human beings.

The experience has been a positive one for all, leaving everyone in the delegation hungry for 2012 and the opportunity to improve further. It is certainly an exciting time to be a part of this great sport.

Craig Foster Cup postponed due to South-East Queenland flood crisis

Andrew Parkes, Director of the Queensland Futsal League, has sent the following update regarding the Craig Foster Cup:

After very careful evaluation and in depth consultation with each region, it is the decision of the QFL to postpone the Craig Foster Cup scheduled for Jan 22nd 2011 out of respect and support for those Regions who have been desecrated by the recent floods.

This event will be re scheduled in approx 6 weeks at a date to be advised.

The rescheduled CF Cup will be used as an event to raise funds to assist the Futsal families who have been tragically affected by the flooding. I hope that you all understand and support our decision in postponing this event and we look forward to all your support in the near future.

On behalf of the QFL , I would like to offer our sincerest heartfelt sympathies to all of those who have been affected by these life changing tragic events.

Preparations for this event will recommence over the following weeks. More information to follow shortly.
