North Lakes futsal player Adam Williamson has earned a ticket to Brazil, to take on the best in his sport.
Williamson, 16, was selected to tour Brazil and train with some of the best teams, players and coaches in the Brazilian confederation in November this year.
Mother Barbara said her son had to cancel his Schoolies’ Week celebrations to attend the tour. Not that he will mind.
“He was absolutely over the moon about it, really thrilled,’’ she said. “He is really honoured to play and the opportunities it will bring him.’‘
He earned the trip after a successful National Club Titles in Sydney in January. His team, Queensland City, went undefeated throughout the tournament and beat New Zealand in the final 3-1.
Coach Jovan Gaesca said: “Adam’s defence during the tournament was outstanding, he became a formidable force for opponents to deal with.
“Adam has the ability to control matches, he shows a calmness and discipline beyond his years and has an excellent vision for overcoming intense or pressured situations.’‘
Williamson started as an outdoor soccer player and was selected for the Queensland schoolboys team after playing for North Lakes State College in the 2010 School State Titles.
That team was also undefeated in last year’s National School Titles.
Williamson also plays for North Pine soccer club and futsal at the Vikings Futsal Morayfield competition, at Morayfield Leisure Centre.
