Friday the 11th March saw the annual Football NSW Futsal awards. A chance to reward the efforts and endeavours of players, coaches and clubmen from both the Super and Premier Leagues.

Once again the Taipans were well represented despite it being far from our best season.

Our Youth Men picked up their Minor Premiers trophy after an outstanding season, getting to the Grand Final without dropping a point should not be underestimated. The boys have vowed to stay together and are already looking forward to next season.

Women’s Goalkeeper of the year was awarded to Elyse Finlayson. Known to everyone, Elyse is a fantastic ambassador for the Taipans and for Futsal. Also she’s not a bad goalkeeper.

16 Boy’s Golden Boot went to Josh Bingham. In Josh’s first season with the Taipans he adapted well and soon became first choice Target. With a small squad, the boys had a great season with no small thanks to Josh’s goals.

Youth Men’s Golden Boot was awarded to Mitch Del Turco. In he’s second season, Mitch has found his feet in futsal and really cemented his place in the starting line-up. A fantastic nose for goal saw him run away with this trophy.

No surprise then that the Youth Men Player of the Year should go to a member of a team that took the league with a 100% record and no one could argue with it going to the player whose goals got them there. Well done Mitch Del Turco.

The Club Person of the Year was picked up by Tony Davies, but was dedicated to all those committee members and parents that work tirelessly throughout the season. Without them we would have no club. It’s a team game off the pitch as well as on it.

Premier League Men’s Player of the Year went to Adrian Vizzari, who took the opportunity to announce he’s retirement from the game. The 30 year old futsalroo stated that the reason he played for the ACT in the recent FFA Nationals and not NSW was due to him knowing it was his last tournament and he wanted a change. He also said there was a need for more characters (like himself) in futsal.

Another retirement has meant the end of a club. Commodores FCB will cease to exist after tonight following the retirement of Kerry Dingwall. Kerry has run he club for many years and it’s a great shame that nobody is able to pick up the reigns. Now should be a time of expansion for Futsal and it’s sad to see a club go to the wall.

A new award this year was the Media Award. This has gone to futsal4all. In its third year, futsal4all is a fantastic resource for all things futsal. Here at South Coast we regularly use the website for a wealth of information and likewise, you can very often find reports from the Taipans on the site. Well done to Regan and his team. www.fusal4all.com.au
