GIRLS
Semi-Finals
Melba Copland 11 (Jess Goyne (3), Sam Price (4), Juz Price (2), Kate Rummery, Andrea Illeris) Lake Tuggeranong 4 (Courtney Holyoake (4))
Melba Copland cruised through to the ACT College Futsal Championships Grand Final with a comfortable 11-4 win over Lake Tuggeranong in the first of the semi-finals played at the Southern Cross Club, Tuggeranong. Sam Price was the stand-out player for Melba Copland, scoring four goals of her own and being the creative link through which most of the Copland attacks started. Jess Goyne was equally as impressive as Sam Price grabbing a hat-trick whilst Justine Price added two more goals. Andrea Illeris and Kate Rummery completed the scoring for one of the pre-tournament favourites. In defeat Courtney Holyoake was immense for Lake Tuggeranong scoring all four of her teams goals and showcasing some excellent skills to an appreciative crowd. However, it wasn’t enough to drag her team through to the Final as Melba Copland marched with a power-packed performance that could have produced many more goals.

Erindale College 6 (Alex Lawrence (2), Nikki Harvey, Emma Thornton, Kelsey Perry (2)) Dickson College 2 (Anna Bennett, Brittany Tully)
Erindale College proved too strong for Dickson College in the second of the Women’s semi-finals eventually triumphing after being forced to work extremely hard for their place in the showdown. Indeed, it wasn’t until late in the second half that Erindale pulled away from their opponents after heading into the half-time interval only 2-1 ahead. A double from Alex Lawrence had Erindale 2-0 ahead in the first half before Dickson pulled a deserved goal back via Anna Bennett. The turning point came when a Dickson player was forced to leave the field due to wearing a piece of jewellery and with the team reduced to four Erindale turned on the power to claim the win. Kelsey Perry added a double with team mates Nikki Harvey and Emma Thornton adding the other goals. Dickson battled hard towards the end of the match and Brittany Tully scored a consolation goal as the game ended its final moments to make the final score 6-2.

Melba Copland 2 (Jineecha Klein, Jess Goyne) Erindale College 3 (Kelsey Perry, Sarah Ratford, Alex Lawrence)
Erindale College produced a superb team performance to take out the 2011 ACT College Futsal Championships by squeezing past Melba Copland 3-2 in an epic Grand Final. In a match that could easily have gone either way it was a second half goal from Alex Lawrence that proved the difference in the end. Kelsey Perry gave Erindale the lead in the first half only for the match to swing back into Melba Copland’s favour with two goals before the half-time interval. Jineecha Klein prodded the ball in from close range to level the scores before a thumping Jess Goyne free-kick flashed into the roof of the net to give her side the slight advantage. In a tight and fraught second half chances were created at both ends with goalkeepers Tatiana Curic (Erindale) and Sarah Christian (Melba) standing firm for the majority of the second twenty minutes. Erindale forced themselves back into the match when Sarah Ratford finished off a slick move and at 2-2 it was anyone’s game. It was Erindale that won the day though when Lawrence ran on to a short pass to fire in the match winner and, despite a last gasp onslaught, Melba could find no way back into the match and the trophy was Erindale’s.

BOYS
Semi-Finals
Canberra College 7 (Josh Gregory (3), Saputra Bachsan (2), Jas Albargeux (2)) Dickson College 12 (Jason Ugrinic (6), Luke Palombi (3), Theo Theoharidis (2), Isaac Bennett)
A virtuoso display from Jason Ugrinic was the highlight as Dickson College roared into the Boys Grand Final with an impressive 12-7 win over Canberra College. Ugrinic showed superb skills and ice-cool composure to bag a double hat-trick with his six goals proving too much for a gallant Dickson team that were worthy semi-finalists. Indeed, Dickson made a late comeback in the game hauling in an 11-3 deficit to get back into contention to within five goals but ultimately ran out of time. Luke Palombi added to Ugrinic’s goals with a treble of her own whilst Theo Theoharidis netted twice and Isaac Bennett once. In reply Josh Gregory top scored for Dickson with three goals whilst Saputra Bachsan struck twice, including a wonderful individual goal in which he waltzed past two markers and rounded the ‘keeper to tuck into the net. Jas Albargeux also scored twice for the vanquished Dickson team.

Erindale College 9 (Julian Borgna (3), James Field (3), Adam Kocak (2), Milan Popovich) Lake Ginninderra 5 (Brad Sawyer (2), Kamal Ahmed, Matt Murcutt, Andrew Stirton)
Erindale College powered their way to the Boy’s Grand Final with a brilliant performance to see off Lake Ginninderra 9-5. In an absorbing first half the quality of play displayed by Erindale College was quite remarkable with the skills of Julian Borgna and James Field creating plenty of chances for their team. Field was the main beneficiary in the first half slamming in a hat-trick of high quality goals with Borgna and Adam Kocak also finding away past Zac Sorenson in the Ginninderra goal who was by far the busier of the two ‘keepers. Brad Sawyer, with a majestic turn and finish, and Matt Murcutt kept Ginninderra in touch at 5-2 at the break. The game swung from end-to-end in the second half with Borgna adding two more to complete his hat-trick and Kocak scoring a second. Milan Popovich made sure that all the outfield players found the net with his striker whilst Andrew Stirton and Kamal Ahmed relied for Ginninderra to finish an entertaining forty minutes.

Erindale College 14 (Julian Borgna (4), James Field (4), Milan Popovich (4), Adam Kocak (2)) Dickson College 5 (Jason Ugrinic (4), Luke Palombi)
Erindale College made sure it was a double celebration by coming from 1-3 down midway through the first half to storm to a highly impressive, and ultimately comfortable, 14-5 victory in the Boy’s Final. With only five players in the squad it seemed as if their semi-final had taken a lot out of the Erindale team early on as they struggled to come to terms with the fast-paced Dickson College attack led by the in-form Jason Ugirnic. The Canberra Olympic youngster struck a quick fire hat-trick to have his team ahead and later went on to add a fourth goal taking his total to ten in two matches. Unfortunately for Dickson College Erindale fired into gear and, after a blitz of goals, went into the break 7-4 ahead. Julian Borgna led the way initially grabbing a hat-trick with James Field and Milan Popovich scoring twice each. Luke Palombi responded for Dickson. It was more of the same after the intervals with Borgna, Field and Popovich all ending with four goals each and Adam Kocak weighing in with two and celebrating in his own unique style. In the end Erindale was too fast, and too strong, for their gallant opponents and were worthy champions.
