Boomerangs Begin their PL with some great results (NSW)
Seven wins out of nine matches in the NSW Premier League Round 1
Boomerangs got their debut season off to the best possible start with 7 wins in the weekends fixture against the Taipans at Illawarra Hockey Stadium.
Due to outdoor committments it was the girls that would lead the day and a nervous start for our newest female members. The 12is got underway not knowing what t expct from their first PL experience but they showed their quality taking a 4-0 lead into the break. a closer second half saw the final result 7-2 in the Boomerangs favour.
Next up our 14 girls took the court. The game was played at break neck speed with neither the boomerangs taking control and the Taipans defending stoutly. Some quality finising saw the girls take a 4-0 lead at the break and extend that to 7-0 by the end of time.
16 girls were missing 3 players for this one due to injury and sickness. It began a slow game compared to what we had seen earlier with the 14′s it as South Coast who struck first after confusion with a kick-in saw a quick break and finish from the Taipans. The Boomerangs girls rallied to be 1-1 at the break and eventually ran out 3-1 winners.
12 boys were another completely new team nervous to get underway. Some outstanding goalkeeping from the you Taipan between the sticks kept the Boomerangs boys out early with the Taipan taking an early 3-1 lead. That 3-1 lead ballooned to a 7-3 final result.
14 boys were almost a completely new team to last years Super League champions and with 3 of their players on Nationals duty with ACT’s state teams it was always going to be a difficult assignment against a strong Taipans outfit. The taipans ran out to a 4-0 lead as our boys struggled to get into the game. the 2nd half saw an improved effort but it wasnt enough as the game ended 5-2.
One of the clubs strongest squads the 16 boys were up now against the side we bat 2-1 in last years Prelim Final. once again the intesity levels were high with our boys playing a pressfor the first 10. Plenty of opportunities came with the post struck 5 times and several back post chance going begging. After being locked at 0-0 the 2nd half was a different story with our boys putting 6 in the Taipans net to finish the game 6-0.
The youth game was a repeat of last years Super League grand final. Again it was frustrating for our boys going close on a number of occassions without being able to finish the chances they were creating. South coast took the lead midway through the first and signs looked ominous as the boys began to get frustrated. After being 1-1 at half time a good 2nd half saw our boys convert 3 more chances to run away 4-1 winners.
Our Women were missing 8 of their team to outdoor and work committments. Once again this proved to be a frustrating game for the Boomerangs faithful with chance after chance going begging. Some outstanding keeping from the Taipans kept the Taipans in what was a game dominated by the boomerangs girls. A well worked back post goal broke the deadlock midway through the 2nd and thats the way it stayed, 1-0 Boomerangs FS.
The men were also under manned with injuries and work committments playing havoc with the playing roster. Boomerangs recruit Daniel Fulton was making his debut for the club in this game and he started in great fashion threading a wonderful angled pass for the opening goal. Taipans hit back with 2 of their own but the Boomerangs took control soon after taking a 3-2 lead into the break. 2nd half was more of the same for the boomerangs who eventually ran out 6-3 winners.
All in all a good debut for the Boomerangs in the NSW Premie League. 7 wins should see us near the top of the club championship table after round 1.

Great start to the season Boomerangs, but it will be interesting to see how close the games are when you come up against the stronger established clubs like Eagles, Vipers and Allstars!
All the best for your first season in Premier League.
