Campbelltown Leisure Centre funding refusal (SA)
Project that would have improved Futsal facilities in South Australia seems doomed for failure
10 September, 2011
Campbelltown Council has again missed out on Federal funding for the $17.5 million redevelopment of the Campbelltown Leisure Centre.
The council applied for a $7.5 million Regional Development Australia grant in May to help the Campbelltown Leisure Centre upgrade its court space for basketball, futsal, and volleyball, and add a 25m indoor heated pool, squash courts and fitness area.
The project hinged on the federal contribution to support the commitments of the council ($5 million) the State Government ($3 million) and State Swim and Squash SA ($1.5 million and $500,000 respectively).
In June 2010, the East Torrens Messenger reported the council had missed out on an application for $7.5 million in federal funding from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
