Match summary of Round 4 in Division 2
10 September, 2011
Happy to be back from a Monday night off which felt like a month off, the competition lost none of its excitement. This weeks round saw some of the top teams lose points while others were desperate to add to their tallies to avoid being left behind in the race for top 4. Leaders Those Guys lose to Spray Wipe while Hard Core Noobs drew with the Internationals meaning the middle group in the table just got a little closer to the top.
Game 1: Black Eagles vs Last Place: In the first game of the division Black Eagles started uneasy, not having any subs on the bench meant they had to reserve energy while also trying to get a head start in case they slowed down at the end. It looked liked the strategy worked for Eagles who got off to a great start going into a few goals advantage in the second half, first half closed at 3-1 in favour of the Eagles, looking real tired. Last place started the second half brilliantly getting a goal back, one magnificent strike from Leonard Tognini from close to half way saw a response from an equally brilliant strike at goal from John Keles. The game looked to go any way at that stage however a late goal by the Eagles sealed their victory. Leonard getting a hat trick for Last Place, while John Keles was the man for the Eagles with his 2 great goals. Final Score 5-3 to the Black Eagles.
Game 2, Those Guys Again vs Spray N Wipe: Those Guys came out of the blocks firing looking to impose themselves on the match early but found themselves up against a Spray n Wipe side who retained quality possession and mounted some early pressure of their own. The breakthrough came after sustained pressure from the men in white as the ball fell to Tom Lok whose powerful strike gave the keeper no chance. Those Guys immediately responded by pushing forward in greater numbers but were would pay the ultimate price, a thunderous tackle dispossessed Those Guys mid-court and a precision pass after the turnover found Jake Hawken who easily slotted home. The second half was dominated by Those Guys with Spray n Wipe creating minimal chances on the break. Those Guys cut the deficit in half with a classy finish after a quality build up and continued to pepper the goal of Spray n Wipe striking the crossbar and the upright. In the dying seconds a Those Guys’ sideline kick-in sailed into the top corner of the goal however was ruled out as the kick-in was untouched. The call meant Spray n Wipe held on for a famous victory over their more fancied opponents.Final score 2-1 to Spray n Wipe . Match report compliments of David Astalosh
Game 3, Internationals vs Hard Core Noobs: The Internationals playing without subs were the impressive side in this game, all though feeling a bit jilted before the game due to not having any subs, they put on a great performance in both attack and defense, playing more of a defensive game ,patiently waiting for HCN to make errors. HCN shaping up as one of the teams on the watch list in this tournament gave back as much as they got, although probably did’nt expect such resilience from the 5 man internationals. All though expecting to win this one helped by a double from Louis Dolores HCN can still boast after the game as being the only team left without a lost in the tournament after round 4. The highlight of the game , came from the Internationals goal Keeper Claudio who came out of his goals and ended up scoring for the Internationals, in which other than the pray N Wipe victory over Those Guys was definitely the game of the night in this division. Final Score 2-2
Game 4, Snipers vs Froosh: After losing their opener against HCN the Snipers continue their winning streak, this time against Froosh who seem to be lacking motivation.Froosh the only team left on the table to not add a point to there tally had their opportunities but couldnt capitalise most of the time, things just not going their way, while the Snipers led by the Energiser Bunny Atalay, ran away with the game convincingly. A double from him and Arif secured the 4-1 and the three points.
