New organisation for futsal formed in NSW
30 September, 2011
The NSW Futsal Association has been formed to bring the sport together with its main focus on development of Futsal at “Grass Roots” level. Its aim is to bring Futsal to as many communities as possible – promoting, fostering and developing opportunities for players, coaches and officials at all levels to enjoy the game. Whilst it will be utilising its own programs as well as support activities and pathways by other Futsal organisations it will remain independent of any state or national Futsal body.
We are committed to delivering a professional and inclusive product with a friendly and respectful attitude at all times.
We will strive to develop Futsal as a sport in its own right!

Well that’s what Alistair said to us back in May:

Subject: Update on nsw
To all,
Some of you may have heard rumours about what is happening in NSW with Vikings Futsal, and happily I am now in a position to give you the good news.
A new organisation FUTSAL NSW was formed and incorporated 6 months ago by a group of futsal people in Sydney. The major stakeholders in the group are Northern Beaches Futsal who in the summer had near 500 teams, Southern Districts Futsal who had 200, Western Raiders with 80 and Shellharbour with 80, but on top of this a number of smaller clubs have joined as well. In total the new entity has near 1400 teams or over 9000 players (which will give them more registered futsal players than Football NSW) and other clubs will be invited to join.
These clubs are all disenchanted with the futsal management of futsal by Football and see joining us as a pathway to greater involvement in futsal.
They will run all there own finances and programmes and simply support our programmes and pay us a small affil and rego fee.
FUTSAL NSW will be an affiliate of Vikings and as such will organise and enter teams in nationals, insure through our programme, and in 2012 take over running schoool titles etc in NSW
(Please note that the boundaries of NSW are from Central Coast down, NNSW still exists as another Vikings area. )
For us, we will be closing our NSW office and have no staff, and office of FUTSAL NSW for moment will be at Northern Beaches office at Manly.
This guarantees that there will be a full representation of NSW teams at national schools and club titles and gives Vikings a far larger presence in particularly Sydney. Our new affiliates are very confident a large number of other clubs will join in the next few months.
Please note that we are not going to make a big show in the media about this, but the simple first step is to let everyone in the vikings world know. At this stage do not put up on websites or in papers, that can all be done in time.
Any queries please email me

Good pick up Anna – todays release kind of contradicts the original letter from Alistair doesn’t it.
ie “… it will remain independent of any state or national Futsal body.”
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I was told by many people that Football NSW had failed to register the name NSW Futsal. From what I have seen, they have only ever used the name ‘Football NSW Futsal.’
When are both entities going to stop playing games and get together for the good of the sport?
Northern Beaches coaches are now coaching at Phoenix apparently.

“Justchecking” – yes your correct they didn’t bother registering the name because when ISA & Futsal joined under FNSW the sport was supposedly unifying and moving forward under a new inified name and structure, hence no need for the “old” name.
Unfortunately there are still factions out there that don’t want to be part of that unity and look for any foot hold in order to maintain the split within the sport.
I’m lead to believe that Alistair has also resurrected the “Futsal Australia”? entity in order to move away from the Vikings image at a national level. Some on may be able to correct me if I am wrong there ?

hey guys…
I can already see one major floor in what is meant to be an association that is trying to do the best for the game of FUTSAL.. I know the main head office is run out of Nth Beaches and so on however the first image shown when entering the NSW Futsal website isnt even a futsal pic.. its kids playing on an outdoor artificial grass field.. Come on people!
Am i the only one that finds this silly and already showing that even though the heart may be in the right place when trying to better the sport that is already an error.. We want to be recognised as a sport on its own and cant even promote the sport properly by showing where and how the sport is meant to be played…
have a think guys..
