FNC Futsal Premier League Update (NSW)
Mullumbimby the New Premier League Contenders
15 November, 2011

Mullumbimby is shaping up as the early favourites to win the $4000 1st prize purse in the Legea sportswear Premier League Futsal competition after 3 wins on the trot including a 9 -5 demolition of top of the table Lismore City on Friday night. They now sit equal with City at the top of the competition. Lismore City have been playing a very physical style and felt the loss of some key players this week, However Mullum have been improving every game with new tactical player combinations and a solid defence. Their lightning fast striker Vinicius De-Carvalho Leite again took man of the match with another incredible personal 5 goal tally.
In the other 2 games played at the Alstonville Sport & Leisure Centre on Friday night, Alstonville defeated Evans Head 8- 5 in a thrilling, fast paced game. Villa’s goalkeeper Ashley Collins has been travelling up from Coffs Harbour each week to play the last 2 rounds and has made a huge impact with his incredibly fast defensive reflexes. Both teams played some very skilful Futsal at a cracking pace however Villa just seemed to be able to capitalise on several Evans Head mistakes. Daniel Bonesi lead Villa’s scoring with a hat trick and man of the match Joel Perkins with two. Evans Heads’ Trent Claydon also took a hat trick but it just wasn’t enough on the night.
In arguably the most exciting game of the night between Goonellabah and Ballina kept the crowd on their feet with a see-sawing score line and a massive total of 16 goals in 50 minutes! After a succession of draws an under strength Goonellabah finally scored their first win, defeating Ballina 9 – 7. Ballina’s Adam Izzard scored three beautiful goals and Andrew Lundie scored a brace. However Goonellabah’s Nick Baker showed us why he is ranked one of the best goal keepers in Australia with some incredible aerial saves. Shannan Maciejewski was unlucky, hitting the ironwork several times. However man of the match was undoubtedly Goonellabah’s talented young Elliot Black with a 4 goal personal tally. Sam Cass and Josh Wilson scored a brace each and Tim Knight rounded off their 9 goal total.
Next Friday’s games will be a critical round and could see Mullumbimby leap ahead when they take on bottom placed Evans Head. Lismore City will have to take stock and try to control a rapidly improving Goonellabah squad it they want to stay at the top. The action starts at 6 pm at Alstonville Sport & Leisure Centre.
