Futsal Junior Premier League Kicks Off (ACT)
Results and reports from Round 1 of the Boys and Girls Divisions
There were goals galore in the Futsal Junior Premier League as the inaugural competition kicked off at Woden Basketball Stadium last night. Leading the way, and putting down a marker for the season, were the exciting Majura Gungahlin United team who took advantage of Monaro Panthers depleted numbers to rack up an astounding 21-3 victory in the Boy’s competition with Samuel Habtemariam hitting a double hat-trick in the win.
There were also plenty of goals for Jarod Dickerson (4), Andrew Aitchison (3), Thomas Cosentini (3) and Harry Williams (3) whilst Benny van de Rhee scored twice. The Panthers found their way onto the score board via a double from Christian Davanzo with Alex Overall scoring their third goal. Indeed, if it hadn’t been for the heroics of goalkeeper Finn Jurak in the Majura Gungahlin United goal the Panthers would have scored plenty more.
A hat-trick from Brendan Ketley gave Belconnen United Strikers a winning start as they saw off the Belconnen United Devils 7-4. Jack Windross joined Ketley on the score sheet for the Strikers with two of his own, as did Connor White. In reply John Papanicolaou (2), Adam Forner and Jack Williams hit the back of the net for the Devils who showed lots of promise.
In the final game of the evening Nick Rolls led Boomerangs FS to a 8-5 win over Brindabella Blues scoring five times. James Fletcher (2) and Mate Barisic added to Rolls five-goal haul which was enough to defeat the Blues for whom Jarrad Bain (2), Mitchell Jervis-Hamilton, Jack Pilkington and Bobby Riyadi scored.
In the girls competition four goals from Ivana Galic was the highlight of Boomerangs FS 12-3 win over Belconnen United. Galic showed her ruthless touch in front of goal by scoring four whilst Keira Bobbin claimed a hat-trick and Alexia Karrys-Stahl and Claudia Mazey-Frankcom scored two each. Lara Mustaine rounded of the dozen. Rachel Henderson made sure her season got off to a good start personally with a brace for Belconnen United with Bella Giampaolo scoring their other goal.
Woden Valley United also started with a win with Amy Abbey scoring twice as they defeated Majura FC 4-1. Georgia Maslen and Anne Moses also netted for United with Georgina Ryan-Lewis goal a mere consolation for Majura FC. It’s early days in both the boys and girls competitions though so there is sure to be lots of ups and downs before the season concludes.
