Futsal is one of the fastest growing court sports in the world, huge in Brazil, Spain & Italy,it has plenty of room to grow & improve in Australia. But why hasn’t it? Nationwide Futsal Reviews never made open to the public! Football federation CEO’s coming out and likening Futsal to an online shop in a way of meeting strategic plan revenue goals . The division among futsal fans in Australia evident on F4A hasnt helped either!
Football Federations collecting registration fees nationwide and simply providing ‘insurance’ is ridiculous. The Football Fed’s fees are killing the sport and allowing external futsal organizations like Vikings to survive & thrive. Why would a league want to affiliate with a federation when they get ZERO in return. Not to mention charging senior men $1000+, no wonder QLD / W.A and now S.A can’t field a team at Nationals! If football is willing to rake in Futsal registration fees then its about time they started giving back more then one member Futsal departments. Lets have a national championships with every state involved.
FUTSAL FEDERATION AUSTRALIA
Futsal may come under ‘Football’ conveniently in the FFA statute, but to grow and expand as a sport in its own right, Futsal will need people with Futsal’s interest at heart to lead the sport, a Futsal Federation if you like. I imagine it would have to report to FFA on financials/projects, however it could design its own strategic plan and conduct its own open & transparent reviews. NSW/ACT already have departments set up but TAS, VIC, S.A, QLD, N.T & W.A all need there own. These members would need to collectively meet and look at plans and projects to improve the sport. Firstly improving refereeing & coaching education, then moving towards helping clubs etc. This has to happen sooner rather then later. The Futsal Federation would need to support the mens national team and create national teams for our junior players too. They could also overlook the ‘F-League’ and assist clubs who wish to participate. Its all hypothetical but I imagine inevitable if we want futsal to be more then a two-state parade.
FUTSAL 40 WEEKS OF THE YEAR
The futsal purists talk of futsal as a sport in its own right, if this is the case then don’t just play it in the football off season. Build leagues for players that want to play competitively all the time. If your best ‘futsal’ players are choosing football for $200-$400 a week then so be it, Develop those that want to play futsal because they are the future of the game. Hopefully in the future a well branded Aus Futsal League could have three to four sponsors get involved and pay our best futsal players, and not rip off junior players with excessive fees to pay the senior prima donna’s like football does. Futsal will get to a point where football players cant pick and choose when they want to play futsal because you will have X amount of good futsal players keeping them on the outer. Later down the track this could be achievable if each federation had its own 3,000 seater purpose built futsal stadium.
STOP CLOCKS, BIG COURTS, INTERCHANGE BIBS, SKINS, BALLS
Federations & Futsal members are worried about stop clocks, subs wearing numbered bibs and players wearing the wrong color skins. court sizes etc It would be great to be AFC compliant but lets experience a little more growth first. Lets prioritize our problems like Junior Participation across the board, Improving our state leagues, getting all federations to field at least one team at our national championships, supporting our mens national team, supporting attempts at a futsal national league, supporting clubs and each other, recruiting passionate people to our sport. Lets improve Futsal across Australia and stop wasting our time discussing rediculous regulations that will most likely change anyway!
Thats it for this weeks rant, next week we cover the best futsal ball, the best futsal player in AUS & more!

These rants are just un-educated rubbish. All three so far have pointed at problems and offered no solutions.

Enlighten us as to your education falcao, is it AFC or AMF compliant I wonder.

UEFA, AFC and CBF actually but I am probably wrong. My point is just that the rants are not solving any issues that will make Futsal in Australia better.
1. National League with funding from FFA is needed
2. FFA needs to affiliate and be open to what others have to offer the sport.
3. Futsal needs true pathways which it currently does not have anywhere in Australia

Well your only missing the FIFA badge really falcao!
I think Futsal needs to grow at the grassroots and state level in a unified manner… but I agree the FFA need to help out with the national league, mind you they don’t even help with nationals… so if they don’t we can’t just sit around and twiddle our fingers.
‘FFA needs to affiliate and be open to what others have to offer’ do you mean vikings & other private futsal groups?
“Futsal needs true pathways”, what do you mean by true? Elite player development train on squads etc? Open and honest criteria across the board from when you first play to futsalroos/womens national team?
I don’t necessarily agree with everything FR has written I don’t see the harm in discussion, debate and banter on an online forum.
Just like F4A, Futsal in AUS has a lot of people sitting behind the sideline… I know for a fact that significant futsal members read F4A, and im sure they’re opinions would add value to healthy discussion.

Adam,
I agree. There needs to be defined pathways including promotion of state and national development squads for all ages. This needs to lead to the National Futsal teams in both men and women.
There is no secret that Vikings and other private operators are stronger in certain areas and also lack in other areas. Why would FFA not tap into these bodies and actually encourage and nurture what is already there.
The answer is that unfortunately Futsal is still seen as purely a revenue stream by FFA and not a serious sport.
