So any info on the makeup of this team? Heard that it contains 6-7 Sutherland players? Is this correct? Seems some obvious players were also overlooked.

if i heard right, there is 4 premier league players and the rest consisting of sutherland players, coincidently the coach is from sutherland and the manager also from sutherland is in the squad.
The selection process this year has been a joke, this team tops of the joke with 4 outstanding premier league players cut.
Good to see FNSW are finally giving other states a chance at finals with their selectors.

Anyone know who the keepers are?
Dec 13, 2011, 3:04 pm
Thats what I heard as well with many very good premier league players getting cut to make way for the sutherland boys. Only the Sutherland keeper was chosen from what I’ve been told, as they are only taking 1 keeper.
I guess he has chosen the players that he feels most comfortable with and will perform better under his coaching. From what i’ve been told they are certainly a team to watch in nationals and should surprise alot of teams.

IMO taking a single keeper is a mistake. Also think a Lightning team should be doing more than just “surprising” other teams. They should be contenders straight out. Taking so many players from a 3rd placed Super League team just sounds wrong.
Dec 14, 2011, 10:13 am
Its obvious that the reason why he chose most of the sutherland boys is because he wants to keep them fit for the super league and more importantly start preparing for next year’s F-League. Not very fair to some of the premier league boys that deserve to be in there but all coaches will always bring in their politics for their selections.. for example knighty and choosing half his maccabi boys in the futsalroos…
Does anyone have a list of the team selections for mens or any otehr grades? I know that ACT have finalised their lists..
Dec 14, 2011, 12:29 pm
I don’t know what the coaches motivation is, I just know this is wrong. There are always issues with state team selections, but never this blatent. I also think this is different from the Futsalroo selections. There a small number of Maccabi players got the fringe positions. In this situation Sutherland got most of the team!
Dec 14, 2011, 2:58 pm
‘Small number of Maccabi players’…. yeh mate.. 2 to be exact, so when you harp on about half the team being selected, get your facts straight observer. this has nothing to do with maccabi or its players so stop bringing them into things. look at them in the Super League. 9 wins 0 losses. who wouldn’t want most of the team. and they have had this kind of season without the likes of Simon Kieth or Daniel Fulton… just goes to show that half of you have no idea what you are talking about sometimes

On about Maccabi again CV!! Found this on the NZ Football website …Defending champions maccabi Hakoah, invited last year as a guest club, will not be returning as the Sydney outfit have since won the Australian national league and qualified for the Asian Futsal Club Championships…?????? Australian National league??? I don’t think the Asian Confederation knows that Maccabi qualified. Only Maccabi supporters like CV would be feeding these lies. Try defending the fact that Garath Naar who lost both times to Lightening is given the Thunder U16 again. Is it because Damian was given a trip to NZ with the maccabi team?

Its amazing what you find out on other websites. lol. I wouldn’t be suprised if they do go as our representative.
Dec 17, 2011, 11:54 am
Janos, i dont know if your a chick or a bloke so i’ll refer to you as ‘it’. it seems to think i know what it is talking about.. i dont, AFC? thats NZ for you they love maccabi i would send them to afc in fact , they are a benchmark for australian futsal. seems like you just have rough days all the time.. its ok there are people you can talk to about that. I’ll refer you to a doctor named I dont give a S**t. once again jumping at anything against maccabi… jealous much?
Dec 17, 2011, 11:58 am
and whos garteh naar and damian? it, i dont know what you are talking about there, i have a life and dont read into every detail, you should get a job with the holywood press. maybe become the next simon cowell.. maybe you dont know who that is cause you only care about maccabi. there is a world outside of maccab,i it.. time to get out there

Peace! CV out!
Dec 30, 2011, 4:23 pm
If I am it than you must by John Meyers as you both like to hug. lol I dislike people who use their money to buy influence and favours. That is the only reason why Naar was given the thunder position. Imagine picking the wrong players or poor coaching or both to lose twice to lightning at the nationals and then given thunder again. Why would Damian do that?
Jan 1, 2012, 8:00 am
It seems to be a boy’s club !! DB must be feeling the pressure!! Just a puppet I think!!
Jan 4, 2012, 1:32 pm
so who is pulling the strings uni?
Jan 11, 2012, 9:01 pm
If my math is correct it looks like Mens Lighnting won’t even make the semi’s.
Jan 14, 2012, 5:36 pm
Oi Janos you stupid knob!
so i just read that gareth naar just won nationals with thunder.. so what does that say? HAHAH how stupid do you look! and anyone who pays out John Myers who only does wonders for futsal in this country deserves to lead a shit life, so i hope you do Janos. he is a great man and you are nothing but a small piece of the lowest S**t in this country

Besides the top 4 teams i thought the standard really dropped this year.. saw all of the opening games and a few others and thought that the southern teams weren’t as strong and i thought nsw lightning were rubbish.. havnt seen a worse team since i’ve been watching the nationals.. its a shame that they couldnt produce a quality ‘B’ team to reflect how strong NSW really are..
Jan 17, 2012, 3:28 pm
I watched all games yes they lacked depth in squad but were very unlucky missed a lot of chances premier league players played good also the keeper who is he also had very good tournament
Jan 17, 2012, 6:23 pm
Keeper was good but the Lightning side, for the majority, were way out of their depth. In all honesty NSW should be able to produce 3 teams of 12 with enough talent to challenge at the nationals given the talent available in their Premier League. Need to get the coaching appointments right with Neutral Coaches….
Jan 17, 2012, 8:12 pm
Kc, it is very difficult to get Neutral coaches when the best coaches are already coaching premier league or super league teams. In melbourne the best 5 coaches are all in charge of the main MFL teams. The VIC coach will have to come from one of those. As a result there will always be a real or perceived conflict of interest.
Jan 18, 2012, 9:39 am
Interesting perspectives.
Ronalso – From a purely Open Men level – who are the best five coaches for Victoria? Also – For the next nationals would you expect them to all apply for the coaching role?
Jan 18, 2012, 11:48 am
@Ronalso
Agree that its hard to find compltely neutral coaches. However surely NSW Futsal should have said something about the lightning selections. only 3 Premier League players with at least 5 players coming from the coahes Super League team which im lead to believe is coming 5th.
Of course there will be some kind of ‘conflict of interest’ with any coach, and Im not saying there arent players in the Super League worth looking at for NSW duty. But there are at least 2 teams worth f players from Premier League that would have done a better job than the players selected in the Lightning team this time around.
Jan 18, 2012, 12:06 pm
kc going by sutherland press release at fnsw 6 players were selected seams a high number for a super league team running 3rd with 6 wins 3 losses does anyone know the numbers who trialed for the team maybe not many turned up ?
Jan 18, 2012, 12:56 pm
cv mate. A drovers dog should win because winning is the norm for NSW not the exception. For someone who pretend not to know Garath Naar you sure like to defend him lol. He should not have been given the job again. Just like the Lightning Mens coach should never be given a team again.
Jan 18, 2012, 2:09 pm
Found out keeper plays super league he should be playing premier league watched their game against thunder he kept them in the game. Their seemed to be to many young players and not enough experience
