In its ongoing plans to upgrade and improve the image of Tavua Town, the town council has allocated another $20,000 for the improvement of public facilities this year.

Special administrator Arun Prasad said plans were in the pipeline to beautify the town.

“With the $20,000, we want to improve the market area and install more benches, fix street lights and improve the town’s sidewalks,” Mr Prasad said.

“We also have more road upgrades planned for the year.”

Mr Prasad said work would start on the construction of a multi-purpose court.

Plans for the court and town beautification were first endorsed in 2010.

“The piece of land that the multipurpose court will be built on is ready and work is set to start by the end this month. The court will be used for netball, basketball, tennis, futsal soccer and volleyball,” Mr Prasad said.

He said it would cost about $150,000 to build the new court.
