Shire Futsal 2011 – 2012 Season to celebrate (NSW)
Sutherland Shire reports on their recent Awards night held to celebrate their NSW Super League Season

Tradies at Gymea was the setting of the 2011 – 2012 Futsal season awards night for the Sutherland Shire. To open the night of celebration Jonathan Simnett welcomed our Players, Parents, Coaches, Managers and Supporters as well as special guests from Sutherland Shire Council Glenn Gooding and Vice Chairman of Football NSW Greg O’Rourke and his wife Kerrie.
Awards started with participants who attend 2012 FFA National Futsal Championships from the Sutherland Shire; 45 Players and 9 Officials receiving acknowledgement certificates.
Further to coming 2nd in Football NSW Futsal Super League Club Championships and having 5 teams in the final series this year the Association received from Football NSW a total of 12 awards compared to 9 last year they are:

- MVP 16 Girls Jordan Baker
- Golden Boot 16 Girls Jordan Baker
- GK of the Year 16 Boys Bradley Peryman
- GK of the year 12 Girls Courtney Newbon
- Club Person of the Year Paul Kelly
- Open Women’s Minor Premiers Sutherland Shire
- Open Women’s Champions Sutherland Shire
- 16 Girls Minor Premiers Sutherland Shire
- 16 Girls Champions Sutherland Shire
- 16 Boys Minor Premiers Sutherland Shire
- 16 Boys Runners Up Sutherland Shire
Open Men’s player Gavin Schipp was given the Grahame “Wicky” Wick Memorial award presented by Dominic Young. This award is issued annually in Memory of the significant contribution Grahame made to the Sport in the Sutherland Shire.
Glenn Gooding and other special guests then presented 150 individual participation awards announced for Super League and Development Squad teams.

Sutherland Shire Futsal 16 Girls player Jordan Baker collected 33 goals during the season a record for this age group, 13 goals short of the overall record being 46 to Troy Ruthven Open Men’s from the previous season.
In a first for the Association “most assists” awards were also presented. Other gifts presented acknowledged the commitment of our Coaches, Managers and Officials from each team.
Football NSW Vice Chairman Greg O’Rourke made a speech on night sighting the positive changes the game was facing under new stewardship of the Board at Football NSW. Greg said in short ‘We are currently undertaking reviews into various sections of the game; we’ve abolished the Futsal insurance fee from this season coming”.
Then special thanks went to team Manager of the Year Kylie Lewin and Coach of the Year joint winners Glenn Errington and Glen Woodhouse. In receipt of the award Woody said “he owes this award to the Players and support of the Club”. Tank said “Coaching the 16 Girls and Open Women’s teams together worked and we thank Jonathan for his support to allow this to happen”.
The biggest trophy of the night was presented to the 16 Girls for being the “Team of the Year” undefeated all season in Football NSW Futsal Super League, Minor Premiers and Champions.
Paul Kelly was awarded Senior Club Person of the Year in recognition of the development squad work at Community level with programs at Menai Indoor Sports Centre and Endeavour Sport High School. Also Amy Woodhouse was awarded Junior Club Person of the Year for her off court support of her 16 Girls team and the Association. Junior and Senior Goal Keeper of the Year awards were presented to Courtney Newbon and Sophie Harper respectively.
