Top five criteria revealed (AFC)
AFC clarify the rules as to how qualification to the World Cup will work
Kuala Lumpur: The top four teams of the AFC Futsal Championship 2012 will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 to be held in Thailand later this year.
In a letter sent to all the 16 participating member associations, AFC has confirmed that in case Thailand finishes among the top four, the fifth ranked team will qualify for the World Cup. Thailand will be playing in the World Cup as hosts regardless of their position in the AFC Futsal Championship.
Teams who reach the quarter-final stage are entitled to be considered for ranking positions five to eight. The following criteria will be applied to determine the fifth ranked team.
- Greater goal difference in quarter-final match
- Greater number of goals scored in the quarter-final match
- Greater goal difference in the group matches
- Greater number of goals scored in the group matches
The participating countries in the AFC Futsal Championship 2012 are: Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Qatar, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and hosts UAE.

It’s times like this that you take some solace from being drawn with IR Iran in the Group Stage. Australia have definitely been drawn in the stronger half of the draw with Group C and D playing off at the quarter-final stage.
If we can get out of our group with Iran, a Brazilian infused Qatar and ever improving Korea Republic, we’ll have the pleasure of Uzbekistan or China PR in the quarters most likey. All in all, a tough assignment for the ‘Roos.
I wouldn’t to be any country relying on a quarter-final losing results to qualify for Thailand. Although we were the “best” QF loser in the 2010 edition of the tournament, Thailand also lost their quarter…

keep dreaming but Australia wont qualify, shame for the country. There is only one entity to blame FFA
