2012 V-League Review Round 2 (VIC)

Sky Blues starting to look the real deal, as Lions & Vipers record wins to stay unbeaten

FC Prahran 3-3 FC Essendon

First clash of round 2 saw 2 sides that struggled in the opening round of the season both suffering defeats. The first half was a tense affair as Essendon jumped out to a two-goal lead but Prahran managed to grab one back before the half time break. Essendon could have felt hard done by in the second half as they added their 3rd to open up a 2 goal deficit but the Warriors clawed their way back late to tie 3-3 at full time with some more accurate shooting Prahran may have won by 3 or 4 goals but they had to settle for a point which has them sitting 9th while Essendon closely follow in 10th.

Goals: FCP – M.Avram 2, (Assaeda OG)

FCE – B.Gearboc, T.Aksoy, P.Robotis

Pascoe Vale FC 8-3 Elsternwick FC

Looking to continue their recent run of form Pascoe Vale took on newly promoted Elsternwick, and the youngsters were expected to be blown off the park. However they surprised everyone including their more illustrious opposition trail 2-1 at the break. The Lions got away from the young Falcons in the second half but they sure pushed them going down 8-3 but their season looked on the verge of lift off. While Pascoe Vale continued their unbeaten run to stay top of the league.

CF Brunswick 2-4 Metropolitan FC

Built up as match of the round of the biggest teams in the V-League faced off in the second round. Metropolitan got off to the better start jumping out to a 2-0 lead but Brunswick were able to claw one back before half time. The second half the bloods threw everything they had the sky bkues bur they just did enough to hold off the fast finishing Brunswick as Metropolitan started to look more and more like title favourites staying second on the table and staying within touching distance of Pascoe Vale.

North Melbourne FC 5-4 FC Balwyn

Seeing the lions & sky blues remain unbeaten gave the vipers extra motivation to overcome the Ivan Zilic less Balwyn. They made no mistake in getting off to a flying start in typical North Melbourne fasion leading 4-1 at the half time break. Early in the second half North added their 5th and it seemed curtains for Balwyn, But the bullets had that never say die attitude and clawed back 3 goals but it was too little too late as North remained unbeaten while Balwyn sit in 7th but are out of the top 4 only on goal difference.

Ashburton FC 6-5 Albert Park FC

Next up the new look green machine faced a tricky game against Albert Park. Alert Park began the first half stronger leading 4-2 at half time as Ashburton looked for answers on how to get back into the clash. It took a bit of luck and a last gasp winner but the green machine managed to get the 3 points and stay in touching distance with the top 4.

Goals: – AFC – A.Ferina 2, J.Sastre, S.Sussapeck, S.Soufi, E.Evans

APFC – E.Mutabazi 2, T.Pham, M.Sied

Hume FC 9-4 FC Collingwood

Last clash on the card saw 2 sides promoted from the State League. Hume were looking to get their first win of the campaign while Collingwood looked to make it 2 from 2. The first half Hume dominated an understrength woods outfit to lead 6-2 at the break. The second half was no different as they continued their dominance to jump into the top 4 and look as if they could be a force in the NIKE V-League.

Goals: – HFC – M.Tankir 4, S.Cicek 2, C.Cicekdag, V.Mazursiy

FCC – C.Zabel, A.Jaffa, A.Quach, H.Noor
