The win also means the Futsalroos qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 to be held in Thailand in November.
Daniel Fogarty gave Australia the lead only for Kuwait to level things through Shaker Almutairi. Danny Ngaluafe put the Futsalroos back ahead almost immediately, and although Hamad Alawadhi made it 2-2, Fogarty’s second of the game sealed the win in extra-time.
“It was a difficult game of futsal, we were coping against good players and (a) mastermind professional coach who was playing all his cards and was successful as they hit back twice in the match,” Australia coach Steven Knight told the-afc.com afterwards.
“Our first goal was to get past the first round. Our second goal was to qualify for the World Cup and our third goal is to get a medal.
“They (Kuwait) played a high pressure game which is typical of quality teams.”
Australia faces Japan on Wednesday night in Dubai (Thursday 12.30am AEST) while Thailand takes on Iran in the other final four meeting.
Kuwait also qualifies for the Futsal World Cup later this year as the top-fifth ranked country in the Championship.
