Vic Vipers Player Jonathan Barrientos speaks to the hummel F-League
Rising star Jonathan Barrientos from the Vic Vipers catches up for a chat prior to season 2 of the hummel F-League
F-League: Jonathan can you tell us about yourself and how you have got involved in Futsal?
JB: I come from a football mad family with three brothers all playing football. Started playing Futsal seriously with Vic Vipers FC back in 2006 and have never looked back.
F-League: What are you most looking forward to in the 2012 hummel F-League?
JB: Having a good and strong competition and a successful season with the Vic Vipers FC.
F-League: How do you see Futsal currently in Australia, do you think the hummel F-League will help lift the profile of the game in this country?
JB: Very far behind the rest of the world. Hopefully the hummel F-League will help us put our game on the Australian sporting radar.
F-League: For people outside of Victoria what can you tell us about Vic Vipers Futsal Club?
JB: It’s a family oriented club – we all treat each other as family, with loads of experience from our coaches to our players. It has a broad and large supporter base where our motto is “ Futsal Is Life”
F-League: How do you think the Vipers will fair in the 2012 hummel F-League?
JB: We’ll do our best on the court, and without having seen or played against any of the other clubs we aim to be competitive, and show an entertaining brand of futsal.
F-League: What’s your most memorable moment on a Futsal court?
JB: Getting a call up from Steven Knight and training with the Futsalroos
F-League: Who is a team mate that the fans of the F-League should keep an eye on?
JB: Each member of our team has an important role to play and we don’t consider one more outstanding than the other.
F-League: We notice your brother is also playing with the Vipers, how do you find playing in the same team, any rivalries on who scores the most goals?
JB: I’ve been playing with my brother all my life and love it. There are no rivalries between us, he’s more of an attacking player and I’m mere defensively inclined. We also have our youngest brother, Kevin, joining us for the first time in an open competition.
F-League: Thanks for your time and Good Luck in in the 2012 hummel F-League?
JB: Thank you all, and I look forward to the competition.
