Women’s Futsal PL Week 2 Highlights and Reports (ACT)
Woden Valley sneak past Boomerangs FS
Week two of the Woman’s futsal premier league saw Woden Valley cling to a one goal advantage for the majority of the match to outlast a plucky Boomerangs FS on Friday night. Woden Valley pounced on an errant pass between defenders, with Jaline Hoek coolly slotting the ball home after winning the ball on the halfway line, and despite Boomerangs best efforts they were unable to overturn the first half strike.
The game started at a frenetic pace with the ball moving from end to end at a lightening pace, not leaving the goalkeepers much time to settle and find a rhythm, with shots on goal coming thick and fast from both ends.
Boomerang’s goal keeper Klara Manenica was called upon multiple times in the space of three minutes midway through the first half, after denying Ashleigh Palombi’s brilliant strike from long range, as well as stopping two shots from directly in front of goal to keep the scores level.
Woden Valley looked to be in control of the game, keeping the ball in their attacking half for the majority of the opening ten minutes and not long before half time a sloppy pass from the halfway line was seized upon by Hoek who deceived Manenica to score the solitary goal for the game.
Woden’s Ashleigh Palombi went close adding to the score just before the half time with a sensational trap and shot on goal that forced the Boomerang’s keeper to dive to deny what would have been the leveler, before moments later Gill Raymond was called into action to keep Woden’s lead intact after a blistering long range effort from Rachel Crittenden.
Boomerangs could not break through however as the half ended 1-0 to Woden. After the main break the girls took to the court with a vigour that gave the healthy crowd plenty to cheer about with teams exchanging shots on target from both ends, calling both team’s keepers into action. Both Raymond and Manencia were resolute in goal, denying several shots on goal that lesser keepers would have conceded.
However, neither side could find the back of the net and the scoreline remained as it was at halftime, with Woden holding on to their slender one goal lead to take the points in an entertaining game and belied the scorecard.
