MAGIC SIGNS AARON CIMITILE
The club continues to strongly rebuild their mens squad in the offseason with recent acquisition of Futsalroo squad member Aaron Cimitile.
Cimitile only recently capped by the Futsalroos has been part of the squad for almost 5 months now training with the aspirations of being selected to attend the Futsal World Cup in Thailand in November.
Cimitile who was being wooed by numerous clubs in the offseason said the opportunity to play with good friend and current Futsalroo Daniel Fogarty was the edge that Magic had over their rivals in vying for his signature.
It was evident in the clubs two trial games that Cimitile and Fogarty have a telepathic combination and everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing both players link up with fellow Futsalroos Gomez and Maiorana in a new look Mens team this season.
Aaron will wear the #5 jersey this season.
We welcome Aaron and wish him all the best for the coming season.
ROUND 1 ROUND UP
Finally the futsal Premier league season kicked off.
Round 1 saw us host rivals and last seasons Club Championship runners up the Enfield Rovers in what promised to be a hard fought first round.
As is always the case the clubs Academy and Pre-Academies acted as a curtain raiser and there was some excellent talent on show which leaves the future of our sport looking in great hands for years to come
When proceedings finally got under way it was our 12 Boys which drew first blood in a game which saw two teams with end of season silverware in mind go head to head in a game that ebbed and flowed for the entire 40 minutes.
Twice the Rovers went ahead but our fighting qualities we there for all to see and we managed to seal a hard fought victory.
Final Score : 3-2
Scorers : Patrick Scibilio x2, Martin Fernandez x1
Our 12 Girls have had a good preseason and continued their good form with a comprehensive 10-1 victory.
The girls led 4-1 at half time and continued their fine goal scoring form in the second half.
Match Report on the 12 Girls from M. Bugden
The first game of the season is always an important one. To get off to a good start is vital in an 8 team competition.
Our girls have all bonded together beautifully and it showed on the court as they performed as a team. From the start we were immediately into our groove with great ball movement and players covering each other to immediately close down our opposition.
Our first goal of season 2012/2013 after other fluid attacking raid that started from back court with Princess powering home the goal. From the re-start we were straight back into it and after another came from Savannah with a very nice finish.
We continued playing our own unique style of futsal for the remainder of the game and 2 other players joined the goal scoring list with Annalise and Isabella both finishing with great goals.
Whilst four players scored goals, these were only possible as a result of very good teamwork, there is a very special mention to Tori, Santina and Elena for their awesome play as their contribution was vital to the overall result. Lastly I would like to mention Lauren our goal keeper, the last line of defence. Her effort and shot stopping kept a very enthusiastic and gutsy opposition team to 1 goal WELL DONE.
Keep up the great work team.
Final Score : 10-1
Scorers : Princess Ibini Isei x5, Savannah Seixas x3, Isabella Libri x1, Annalise Schiraldi x1
Our 14 Girls made it a hat-trick of victories with a huge 9-0 win.
With the majority of the team made up of last years Premiership winning side the girls started the season in the best possible way.
Final Score : 9-0
Scorers : Dimity Antonis x3, Bianca Galic x2, Lorena Bugden x1, Sarah Urquhart x1, Angelique Dimitrakas x1.
Our 16 Boys suffered the clubs first defeat of the new season against a well drilled Enfield side. Enfield one of the favourites of the competition defended resolutely to seal the 3 points.
Our poor pre-season surely hasn’t helped but this team will get better as the season progresses.
The 16 Girls game was a hard fought encounter with both teams evenly matched throughout. In what was a dour first half the Rover girls took an unexpected 1-0 lead going in at half time. The Rovers then extended their lead with 6 minutes remaining.
Enfield’s second goal sparked our girls into action and scored twice within 3 minutes to pull the score back equal which is how the game ended.
Match Report on the 16 Girls from Jodie
The first game of the season is always a hard one, even harder when you play your biggest rivals, and hard is what this team made it.
The game began and only minutes in Enfield were awarded a penalty and found themselves with the first point. The ball was passing to and fro between teams with both defences working hard. When the whistle blew we were 1 nil down.
Robbie’s words at half time seemed to inspire the girls when they took the court in the second half it was like a brand new team. The girls found their team mates and were using them to move the ball around. Minutes in Georgia equalised the scoreboard. Both teams wanted the 3 points and were working hard for them. Enfield received another opportunity when given another penalty shot, and yes the score was now 2 – 1.
The girls were fighting to stay in the game, the equaliser came from Mini but with only minutes left on the clock the score was not to change.
Final Score : 2-2
Scorers : Mini Pollicina x1, Georgia Klapos x1
Our Youth Men battled hard but couldn’t quite overcome a well drilled Rover side who pipped us 3-2.
In another tight clash on the day the Rovers led the entire game and cemented their 2nd victory for the day.
Final Score : 2-3
Scorers : Michael Cimino x1, Harry Brown x1
Our new look Womens side took on an opposition which had 3 players that were team members last season.
The Rovers opened the scoring after only 11 seconds and added a second to lead 2-0 at half time after we carelessly gave the ball away.
Our girls hit back to cut the lead by half but began playing 5th man with 10 minutes to go which gave the opposition keeper the opportunity to lob our 5th man and once again give the Rovers a 2 goal lead.
We again pulled a goal back and had a clear penalty not given after our player was crudely hammered from behind by the Rovers keeper which the referee missed.
The games final few missed passed with us hitting the post twice and the Rovers keeper making a number of great saves, but in the end the Rovers held onto a deserved win.
Final Score : 2-3
Scorers : Amy Dahdah x1, Elyce Goss x1
After the shambolic situation with the Mens competition leading up to the game and FNSW refusal to postpone the match even though both clubs agreed to it. What could’ve been one of the clashes of the season turned into a walk in the park for the Rovers which left both clubs with a hollow feeling.
Full credit to the Rovers heirarchy of Ernie Bivona and Boz Rakvin on working with us for the betterment of the game and trying to have the game postponed but for reasons unbeknown to both clubs the game was still told to go ahead.
The Rovers cruised to an easy victory against a Magic mens team which had 8 players unavailable.
The return fixture promises to be a classic.
Final Score : 2-6
Scorers : Stephen Kayes x1, Antony Foti x1
ROUND 1 TEAM OF THE WEEK
For Round 1 against Enfield Rovers we are proud to award Team of the Week to the u/14 Girls.
Excellent performance by the girls which saw them not only play the best futsal on the day but most importantly keep the opposition scoreless.
Great result girls, keep up the great work.
