Quake Does Well Against Sutherland (NSW)

Quake reports on their pre-season trial matches against Sutherland Shire

Quake visited Sutherland Shire this past Saturday for its final trial matches of the pre-season and played some very good futsal.  We thank Sutherland and wish them well for the season and give special thanks to those who officiated the matches.  A brief summary of the games follows.  Please note that not all scores may be accurate as the scoreboard couldn’t be relied upon.

12 Boys – Proudly Sponsored by 40 Winks Campbelltown

Another good hit out but more work to do.  After racing to a quick 3-0 lead the boys struggled to take complete charge of the match.  The boys weren’t as sharp as they have looked previously and will be working on defence this week before the competition starts in earnest.  Final score 6-3.

12 Girls – Proudly Sponsored by JR Electrical

Final score for this game was 10-2 with most of the goals coming late in the match.  Sutherland competed well but ran out of steam with limited subs on their bench.  The girls know they didn’t play as well as they did last game and work needs to be done on control and defence.  Having said that, winning 10-2 when you’re not playing at your best is still very impressive.

14 Girls – Proudly Sponsored by Clintons Toyota

The girls went down to a good Sutherland side that were well drilled and committed.  They learnt this week that not all teams will let them play and that they will have to dig in at times.  The positive to come from the game was that the girls, once they were in trouble, stepped up and worked their way back into the contest.  But they just couldn’t get the equaliser.  Final score 2-3.

14 Boys- Proudly Sponsored by Capital Steel Buildings South West

The lads were still missing quite a few players but, unlike last week, had more than enough for their opponents to handle.  They started quickly and just kept putting the pressure on.  This result and performance was a much better indicator of how the team will fare this year.  In the end it was a blowout with the score being somwhere around 10-3.

16 Boys- Proudly Sponsored by Einhell Australia

Sutherland really competed in the first half and there was only a goal in it at the half.  But whatever Danny said at half-time did the trick and the lads ended up scoring for fun in the 2nd half.  Plenty of impressive individual performances but, considering most of the goals were tap ins, the teamwork in the 2nd half needs to be applauded.  Final score 10-2.

Youth – Proudly Sponsored A.H. Beard

Hard to get a gauge on where the boys are at.  With only 5 of the team available – and 2 of them being ‘keepers – our 15 and 16 year olds stepped up and filled in admirably.  This was the only run the team has had.  The final score was a 1-2 loss but the lads had chances to equalise and in terms of how the boys will fare this means very little.  What was exciting about the game was how well the younger boys played.

Men – Proudly Sponsored by United Tools Liverpool

This was the only run for the Men and they made the most of it.  They looked sharp, worked hard in defence, combined well and bossed the game from the outset.  The fact that quite a few players were missing made no difference with Youth and 16 Boys players filling in and not looking out of their depth.  A good start and the side showed enough to suggest they should do well this year.  Final score was again around 10-2

Premier League starts next Saturday against Vipers at Alexandria.  Can’t wait.
