Round Three Match Report – Mt Druitt Town Rangers Futsal Club 20/10/2012
Round three had the Taipans up against Super League newcomers Mt Druitt Town Rangers and with both clubs having indifferent results over the first two rounds; this was a hard match to call. Once again our Development Squad had the opportunity to open the day’s proceedings, and our small squad was only too pleased to take on both of Mt Druitt’s teams. The Taipans have come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks which showed in two excellent games put on by the up and coming players of both clubs.

The 12 Boys were looking to build on their round two victory and are starting to play the type of Futsal demanded by Coach Bobby. Early goals had the South Coast boys racing to a 5-1 halftime lead. A much more even second half saw both sides scoring two goals apiece with the Taipans running out 7-3 winners. The Taipan goal scorers were, Jacob Gjorsevski (2), Luke Jones (2), Dean Saverino (2) and Jason Pappas.
12 Girls
The Taipan 12 Girls looked like they were never going to score as they dominated their game against a Valliant Mt Druitt. 0-0 at halftime and everything was up for grabs in the second half. Finally it was Ashley Dribbus that gave the South Coast youngsters a deserved lead and ultimately a 1-0 victory in a very close game.

With their coach Sam away, stand-in coach April must have been rueing her luck as she looked up at a Mt Druitt 14’s side that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Youth game. Not only big, this side could play, and it’s no surprise they are unbeaten. Two quick well taken goals had the Taipans on the back foot, but they held the score until halftime. More of the same in the second half, and the Taipans did well to contain the score to 4-1. The Taipan scorer was Jeremy Flanagan.

Our 14 Girls were looking for their first win of the season and with the Rangers in the same position it was up for grabs. Goals from Danika Matos and Abigail Jordan had the Taipans go in at halftime with a deserved 2-0 lead. More pressure in the second half only resulted in one more goal, scored by Kya Stewart, but the girls were more than happy with a 3-0 win.
16 Boys – Sponsored by Big River Timber
This was the big one as the two sides with 100% records came face to face. Some excellent futsal saw the game go end to end with no side gaining any real foothold in the game. As both sides probed, it was the Taipans that forged the all important opening goal. More nip and tuck had the game in the balance as the Taipans held a narrow 2-1 lead at halftime. It was the South Coast boys that sprinted out of the blocks for the second half, and three more unanswered goals saw them run out 5-1 victors. Scorers Robbie Delbanco, Matt Mazevski, Jack Taseski, Aiden Breslin and Kyle Del.
16 Girls
Although the players they have are very talented, the lack of numbers meant that once again, the 16 Girls would have to call upon the 14 Girls to back them up. Like the 12 Girls, it looked like the inability to finish was going to be the girl’s downfall until Heather Duffy broke the deadlock sending the Taipans in 1-0 up at halftime. This seemed to settle the South Coast side as another goal from Heather and a further two from Taren King had girls run out 4-1 to the good.
Youth Men
Our Youth Men only had three players available, and with the knowledge that we would also be short in the Men’s. It was a case of splitting the 16 Boys and using some in the Youth and some in the Men. Unfortunately it appeared that the squad selected for the Youth forgot to have any defenders as a strong Mt Druitt side repeatedly found themselves in space with no one but the keeper to beat. Early goals for the Rangers meant that the Taipans were always chasing the game and a halftime score of 2-4 eventuated into a final score of 2-6 to Mt Druitt.
Women
This was another match where both sides were looking for their first win of the season. But with only five Women in attendance, once again the 16 Girls were called into action. 0-0 at halftime, it always looked like whoever scored first would take the points in a very close game, and so it was as Taren King took that all important goal, and so the victory for the Taipan ladies, capping off an excellent day for the female sides that won all their games.
Men
So five Men, two youth and three 16’s set out to see if we could end the day on a high and match last week’s effort of seven wins from nine. This looked like a distant dream as Mt Druitt got off to a fantastic start racing to a 0-3 lead. Fortunately the Taipans are not fazed by going behind, as they have every week, so we shouldn’t have been surprised that the scores were level at 3-3 by halftime. Further goals in an excellent second half, especially by the younger boys, finally had the Taipans run out 6-4 winners. The Taipan scorers were Daniel Ferraro (2), Ricky Zucco (2), Paul Gaffney and David Stojic.
So for the second week in a row we take seven victories from nine. And with every team now tasting victory, we have quickly put behind us the slow start in round one.
We now go on our travels for the next three rounds, and by the time we play at home again, we will have a much better idea as to exactly how our season is going. But for now, well done to all those that have turned up. And for those that haven’t, sort it out…….. See you all next week at Botany Bay Pirates.
