Done and dusted for another year – the Australian Futsal Nationals have come and gone once again.
All twelve ACT teams represented the Territory proudly and whilst all might not have lived up to expectations (mostly their own), the final results were probably a fair representation of the Futsal played over the week.
Twelve ACT teams competed in every possible age group from U12 boys and girls through to Open Men and Women. And across these teams was a large proportion of Boomerangs players (and coaches).
Of the twelve teams, only two did not progress to the finals.
Four ACT teams made it to Grand Final day and performed strongly. The victors of the day included the two ultimate prizes of the Open Men’s – in a thrilling penalty shootout against Victoria, and the Open Women’s – who also defeated Victoria, though in regulation time 2-0. The U15 Boys and Youth Women fought hard on the day, but were outplayed by stronger NSW Thunder teams.
A full report on all the Grand Finals across the day can be found on the Capital Football website.
Special mention must go to the outstanding performances by all 60 plus Boomerangs players (around 50% of all ACT players at this Nationals) including fantastic achievements by:
- Thomas Milicevic – U15 Player of the Tournament
- Daniel Fulton – Open Men’s Player of the Tournament and MVP of the Grand Final
- Tahlia Davidson – Youth Women Player of the Tournament
- Ashleigh Palombi – MVP of the Grand Final
In addition six Boomerangs coaches coached teams at the Nationals with two Grand Final winners in Kristian Collins (Open Women) and Sam Smith (NSW U15 Thunder) and one Runner Up Nunzio Rinaudo (ACT U15) . Congratulations to all coaches on a huge commitment and effort.
