Proudly sponsored by Stanno, Indoor 5’s, Sydney City Renault and Envirosystems, Sydney Futsal Club’s 14 Girls have created history in becoming the clubs first ever team to make the Grand Final. Awaiting them are the minor premiers and overwhelming favourites the mighty Mountain Majik. The girls have been battle hardened playing sudden death futsal from late in the season, scraping into 4th place. In their first semi-final they accounted for Maccabi 3-2 in a nail biting extra time victory.
On Saturday SFC Starlet’s came up against the Northern Tigers and were methodical in their approach to the game. Within 5 minutes they took a 1-0 nil, however Northern Tigers equalised and both teams went into half time all square. The sky blue’s Shannon Thompson, was treated for an injury as their coach Jessica Abrahim gave her a well-deserved rest. Northern Tigers drew first blood when the game resumed and held that lead doggedly until 7 minutes to go when the sky blues equalised. Both teams strived for the winner, however the game ended 2 all. In the first period of extra time Sydney Futsal Club took the lead and held onto it in fine fashion. They had defeated a gallant Northern Tigers to earn a spot in the grand final.
The girls showed unbelievable resolve when compared to the previous week. They were methodical and in control for most parts of the game.
Next week’s Grand Final will be enormous taking on the favourites Mountain Majik in their own back yard. Now many will give them a hope in hell. Irrespective of the result the club is might proud of them as history has been created.
The question is, “Will they add another chapter to it?”
The belief is there, only time will tell.
