South Coast Taipans take out State League Futsal Championship
The South Coast Taipans U12 Boys were not only crowned minor premiers after finishing the season on top but they also took out the NSW State League Grand Final against rivals Liverpool Raiders.
The young South Coast outfit finished the season as Premiers after winning 10 of their 11 regular season matches. They conceded a miserly 22 goals and scored 97 along the way setting the record for best defence and offence in this age category.
Most of the team have been together for two years under the tutelage of coach Bobby Mazevski. The squad is predominantly made up of outdoor representative players who each have brought their own flair and style to the team.
After finishing first, the Taipans had to use their second chance after Liverpool beat them in the semi final and after the Taipans beat Sutherland to advance to the Grand Final, the stage was set for another epic encounter against these two sides.
Things looked great with the Taipans leading 3-1 at half time in the Grand Final, however the Raiders weren’t about to surrender without a fight. They clawed their way back with the Taipans holding a slender 4-3 lead going into the final 8 minutes. The South Coast boys nailed the door shut with two well taken goals to close out the game 6-3.
The win caps off a fantastic year for this team who showed great consistency, skill and determination.
Coach Bobby Mazevski said “I am delighted for the boys. They ticked off all team goals. They have represented the club and region with pride and I hope many of them go on to be the future of the Tapains”.
The South Coast Taipans Futsal Club reached the preliminary finals in the under 16 girls, Youth men and men’s competitions. They went on to finish fourth in the club championship.
