F-League Preparations Underway (ACT)

Boomerangs F.S.

act-fleague-boomBoomerangs FS are very pleased to be admitted to the third year of the Men’s F-League for season 2013. And in addition to the Men’s team, the Boomerangs will also be competing in the inaugural year of the Women’s F-League.

After a terrific second season in the F-League, the Boomerangs are looking to improve results on the fourth place achieved, and to challenge for top spot. Winning the F-League entitles the team to participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship.

‘The Men’s squad is looking particularly strong this year with potentially a great mix of experienced players – including current and past Futsalroos – with some talented youth players’ said Boomerangs President Kristian Collins.

‘With good preparation and a solid commitment from all twenty squad members, we can really push for a top of the table finish. We were undone last season by not getting the results on the two away series to Melbourne that we should have and we had some injuries to key players at key stages of the competition.’ Kristian added.

A squad of some 35 players will be trying out over the next few weeks under Men’s team coach, Simon Aitchison. Simon lead the ACT Men’s team to victory at the 2013 Futsal Nationals played in January.

Kristian Collins himself will be coaching the Women’s team in their inaugural season and has already seen some great talent and work rate on show at the trainings held so far.

‘It’s a shorter season for the Women, with only six teams in the competition this first year – much like the Men’s competition was in it’s first year in 2011.’ noted Kristian.

‘We have a good solid base of players from our NSW Premier League team and have some great talent ready to add to that squad.’ He added. ‘I am confident that our Women’s team will feature near the top of the table.’

The Men’s F-League teams will play five weekend ‘Series’ with typically three games per weekend for each team. Two of the series will be held in Sydney, two in Melbourne, and one at the Boomerangs home court at the AIS (likely to be in July).

It is hoped both the Men’s and the Women’s squads will be finalised soon so that full on training can begin in earnest.
