Australian Futsal’s Very own Kate Lutkins, shows she is truly a gifted sports Woman. Not only being a part of the Australian Women’s Futsal team who will go and contest the AMF World Futsal Cup in November, Kate has been selected at pick 28 in the very first Women’s AFL Draft.
This draft signals an appreciation for the existence of women’s football and primarily a step forward in recognising the value of women as a part of football community and the remuneration of an elite status sanctioned by the most elite level, AFL.
Over 250 players aged 17 and above nominated in the AFL women’s draft.
In 45 days the 50 draft picks chosen last night will march onto one of the most famous patches of grass, the MCG. Donning the Melbourne Demons and Western Bulldogs colours to change the landscape of elite Australian Football with the first inaugural AFL women’s game.
The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Women’s Round AFL game between Melbourne FC and Western Bulldogs at the MCG on the 29th of June.
