Match officials from the New South Wales Futsal Referees Association will be in action this coming weekend as the Australia’s national futsal competition the hummel F-League kicks off for 2013.
Now in its third year, the hummel F-League is the highest level of futsal in the country and serves as the qualifying competition for the AFC Futsal Club Championships, the indoor version of the sport’s equivalent of the AFC Champions League. 2013 also sees the addition of a women’s division played under modified rules.
NSWFRA President Greg Webster said he was looking forward to seeing the State’s top match officials in action over the weekend. “The hummel F-League provides our referees with a true pathway from local club futsal, through to State League and now national level competition,” Mr Webster said.
“We’ll have our three FIFA Futsal Referees in action as well as a number of our very talented national level referees. We’ve also got a number of our younger up and coming match officials who will be assisting on matches and gaining valuable exposure to the highest level Australia has to offer.
Matches commence on Friday night at Dural Sports and Leisure Centre (Corner of Pellitt Lane and Kenthurst Road, Dural), continue all day on Saturday at the same venue and then move to All Sorts Fitness Centre (1/184 Bourke Rd, Alexandria) on the Sunday.
“For anyone who might be interested in futsal refereeing and to see what the sport has to offer I’d encourage you to come down on one of the days to watch our referees in action and speak with some of our coaching staff or the actual referees when they are available to chat,” Mr Webster said.
“As the sport continues to grow opportunities for referees will continue to grow as well. It’s an excellent time to be a futsal referee in New South Wales,” Mr Webster said.
