Futsal Kicks Goals on Mornington Peninsula (VIC)

trick1The 1st ever Trick Star Futsal Tournament on the Peninsula took place at Balcombe Grammar School in Mt Martha on July 2 & 3 and was a hit with players, parents and organisers.

Futsal, which is played with 5 players on a small court indoors, with a special low bounce soccer ball, is the fastest growing sport in the world, but does not currently have any competitions or leagues on the Peninsula, which is where local football brand Trick Star, stepped in.

The Tournament, was attended by 40 local youngsters, all under 12 years, with teams from Balcombe, Mt.Martha, Skye, Langwarrin, Mornington & the Trick Stars (made up of individual who did not have a team) and according to parents “the kids had a great time’ ‘ it was very well organised’ ‘they cant wait for the next one’ the 2 days also featured the trial of the Freestyle Football Juggle Off, a Panna KO Tournament in the Octagonal cage & a Freestyle demo by Trick Star Pro Karl Faraj.

Organiser Paul Harvey was very excited by the response and said “Trick Star is all about improving footballers technique and for the kids to take to Futsal as they did was great for us. They now have the bug for it which we will now feed! ” he is referring to the fact that the Trick Star Futsal Academy will now be established on the Peninsula, at Padua College in Mornington from July 31, to help local youngsters learn about the sport, improve there skills and play socially before making the step up to  competitive tournaments. The Academy is open to beginners, ex & current footballers up to the age of 14 years and cost just $90 for a 8 week term. This will then lead in to the launch of the Mornington Peninsula Futsal League for Junior & Adults teams in October as Paul went on to say “We would like to hear from anyone who wants to get involved with Futsal on the Peninsula, coaches, potential team managers and of course players. We want to build a strong Futsal community down here as we are a fair way behind the rest of Melbourne in terms of Futsal development.”
