Queensland Futsal is pleased to announce that Scott Summers and Damian Conquest have taken on the role of joint coaches of the state men’s team. Both have an extensive background in futsal and bring a wealth of experience to the team.
Scott born in Sydney , has represented ACT, NSW and Queensland in the open men’ at the nationals , winning the title with two of them. He started futsal at the age of 10 and toured Brasil twice with the Centre of Excellence squad. He represented Australia in an unofficial international game in 1998 , where his career was halted while he lived in the UK. Whilst, in the UK he played semi professional football in the Scottish second division with Dumbarton , before returning to Australia and settling in Brisbane. Besides still regularly playing and coaching futsal, Scott is the managing director of financial planning group Pathway Enterprises ( www.pathwayenterprises.com.au ) who specialise in superannuation advice.
Damian, a true blue Queenslander , went to his first nationals at the age of 9, first selected in the open men’s team at 16 and went on to play for Australia at the 1999 Oceania play-offs as well as a number other games. He also spent 6 months training with Atletico Mineiro Futsal, although not being able to sign on as he couldn’t get a work permit, and also trialled for Charlton Athletic in football when 16 years old. He played for the Queensland men’s team for over 10 years and had coached numerous junior state teams. In football he played premier league for Ipswich Knights, South United and Rochedale. Besides regularly playing futsal with his friends , he works at Australian Futsal’s warehouse in merchandising.
Scott and Damian plan to hold trials for the men’s team in early September, and are planning intense build up towards the nationals. They will be going around clubs identifying players and bringing them into a training squad.
” We want this team to have an all year programme ” Scott said ” and we are looking at other tournaments and games to compete in. ”
