ACT Womens Premier League Round 7 Review

Logo - ACT Capital Football Futsal (PNG)Can anyone stop the Boomerangs Juggernaut? That’s the question being asked around Canberra Futsal following the latest round of action on the courts. Boomerangs FS domination of the Women’s Futsal Premier League continued in Round 7 as they opened up a nine point gap at the top of the standings following another emphatic victory. The pre-tournament favourites have now won all seven of the matches played and are in free-scoring form as epitomised with a 10-3 hammering of a game, but ultimately outclassed, Kids FC at the AIS Training Hall.

Flowing, quick paced counters, ably finished off by the Palombi sisters is the hallmark of the Boomerangs game and it was very much in evidence as Kids FC was beaten. Brittany Palombi bagged four of the ten goals scored with Ashleigh Palombi netting a hat-trick meaning that between them the league hot-shots have thirty-one goals already this campaign. Becky Roche weighed in with a brace and Erin Clout also scored in a convincing win. Najwa Allen, Laura Sofoulis and Madelyn Whittall responded for Kids FC who played some neat Futsal throughout.

Weston-Molonglo El Diva are second on the ladder, on goal difference ahead of Canberra FC who has the bye this round, despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Woden Valley in an exhilarating match. A sixth goal of the season from Clare Munro and a well-taken finish by Kim Smith wasn’t enough for El Diva as goals from the outstanding Jamie Berkeley, her ninth of the season, and Sandra Hill earned the young Woden Valley team a deserved two points from the draw.

Belconnen United moved into fourth place after seven rounds with a 3-0 victory over Monaro Panthers. The Blue Devils played a tactical master class against the Panthers, defending well and exploiting numbers on the break to claim a routine win and keep them in contention for a top four spot. Nicole Jalocha continued her good start to the competition scoring her seventh goal of the season whilst there were also strikes from Maja Blasch and the in-form Erica Weatherly as Belconnen eased home.

In the first match of the evening there was a maiden 2013 Women’s Futsal Premier League win for ANU Vogue with saw off the challenge of Tuggeranong United, winning 6-1. Annica Schoo was the star of the show for Vogue, buzzing around the court and claiming a treble with three superbly taken goals. Schoo’s hat-trick took her to five goals for the club this year, a figure she was joined on by Erika Pennyfield who bagged a double. Jill Padrotta netted her first of the season as ANU ran riot with Dianne Wilson scoring Tuggeranong United’s consolation goal.
