When he plays in Queensland, Denis Yongule is regularly his team’s top goal-scorer.
That includes at school futsal and for his National Premier League football club Brisbane City.
He netted 11 goals from 17 matches in his debut under-15 NPL season.
The St James College year 10 student was also Australia’s top goal-getter on a recent futsal tour to Brazil.
The Redbank Plains-based footballer said it was a fantastic learning experience playing 15 games against skilful club sides in Brazil.
“I improved a little bit,” the quietly-spoken teenager said.
“I enjoyed it. It was pretty good.”
Denis, originally from Sudan, has been in Australia for about eight years. He appreciated receiving specialised coaching in Brazil, adding to the excitement of playing futsal.
“I play futsal because you keep the ball on your feet most of the time,” he said. “So you get more time on the ball.
“It’s really fast.”
He is looking forward to more futsal tournaments after the school holidays.
Wanting to play professional football overseas after college, the 15-year-old helped City finish fifth in this year’s NPL. He’s a midfield/striker.
For his efforts representing Queensland and Australia, Denis is the latest QT-City of Ipswich junior monthly sportstar.
He won the July award in the 2013/14 series.
