To open up proceedings for Round 5 of the 2013/14 season saw the new league leaders in the Vic Vipers take on fourth placed Ashburton. Despite a double from Brazilian starlet, Vinicius, the vipers still found themselves 3-2 down at the break thanks to some magic from Ricky Castro and Rodrigo up front. The second half saw the Vipers step up to the occasion as they out scored the Green Machine by 5-1 as Shayan Alinejad scored a late double to seal a valuable win to keep the league leaders at the top of the pile.
Man of the Match: Vinicius (Vic Vipers)
Definitely the difference between the two sides. It was a masterstroke by manager Milton Sakkos to bring in the Brazilian star. Bringing class and experience into the squad in such a dangerous game, Vinicius certainly delivered with three quality goals and was the focal point of many Vipers attacks.

The next game on the card for Round 5 saw lowly Albert Park try their luck at claiming their first points for 2013/14 against title hopefuls Metropolitan. It was no surprise that it was the heavily favoured Metro who took a commanding 5-3 lead with the returning Tomo Grgic bagging a double. The second half saw the Royal Blues inflict more pain on the hapless Albert Park by adding a further nine goals as another returning star in Juso Julardzija claimed a hat trick to ensure Metro went into equal second position on the ladder.
Man of the Match: Tomo Grgic (Metropolitan)
We have said it time and time again, Metropolitan’s veteran defender continues to get better with age and his four goal performance against Albert Park is clear evidence of that. Hopefully he can take his red hot form into next weeks massive clash against Pascoe Vale.

The final game on the beautiful Sunday night of futsal saw the sixth and seventh placed teams take to the pitch in Hume and Mickleham respectively. Hume took off to a flying start with doubles from star forward pairing in Matty Vragovski and Adem Alicevic to make it 5-1. Mickleham were very dangerous late in the second half scoring two goals in a row – some of the best futsal we have seen all season from Vlado Zoric’s side – but it was too little too late as a Moe Tankir double put their hopes of claiming a result to rest.
Man of the Match: Adem Alicevic (Hume)
Last seasons golden boot winner has taken a little while to adjust to the Hume style of play as he is working on becoming a more disciplined and all-round player. But it’s evident the former Brimbank target man is on the way up as he is doing all of the team things. As well as scoring two important first half goals, he also added a number of assists to his name and was a massive figure in his sides win tonight.
