Local businesses and Futsal teams rallied to support an exciting disability event hosted by the Superstars in Clare.

The Try-leisure games brought together leisure options groups from the Barossa, Yorke Peninsula and the Mid North with the aim of meeting new people and ‘try’ new sporting activities.

In Australia, people with disabilities are statistically less likely to participate in cultural and sporting activities.

This means that they may also miss out on the associated social opportunities.

For some participants the games were their only night of the year where they got to see a live band and participate in a genuinely inclusive sporting event.

The all-inclusive Impromptu Choir opened the event with songs that raised the roof and set the tone for the action packed day.

Participants rotated across a number of activities including sports and games.

The award ceremony was a real highlight that gifted everyone with a handmade medal feat a moon rock crystal and were all designed and made by Superstar participants.

This year’s games were topped off with a sci-fi themed dinner dance at the Clare Racecourse.

Aliens, space invaders and rocket launchers were just some of the colourful characters populating the dance floor at the racecourse that night.

‘It was wonderful, it was a very liberating fun kind of day’ says Impromptu’s mandolinist Chris Alway ‘it was so rich with participation. The art work by the Superstars was great’

This day was made possible with the generous volunteer help and support.
