West Brisbane players Alex Dyson and Aiden Cathcart were overjoyed today after beating long-time rivals South Brisbane eight goals to two.
Following last week’s debut against Pine Rivers, which they won 10-1, and their round two victory against South Brisbane the West Brisbane 12 boys are quickly becoming the team to beat.
Players’ Dyson and Cathcart have been looking forward to versing South Brisbane all week;
“We have been playing together at club, regional and state levels for three years now and we come up against the South Brisbane players all the time” Cathcart said;
“Yeah we have been looking forward to this game; South Brisbane was the team to beat, they won Regionals and States playing together” Dyson added.
The boys said the highlight of the game was their outstanding team work;
“Seeing everyone play and perform together as a team to beat our rivals was the best part of the game” Dyson said.
Both players said the game was tough and close but that their enthusiasm and organisation thanks to coach, Michael Cathcart, gave them a competitive advantage;
“All of the players in our team have played at Kenmore for the past two years, which helped us beat South Brisbane because we were able to attack faster with organised set plays” Dyson said.
Following their amazing performances in the opening rounds Dyson and Cathcart are really excited to be a part of the Brisbane Futsal League (BFL). The boys said the league gives them the opportunity to prepare for the swiftly approaching state and regional titles by allowing them to play in a challenging competition;
“In our local competition at Kenmore we have to play up in the under 14 competition.This is fun because it is a physical challenge however BFL gives us the opportunity to verse the best players from different regions in our own age group” Cathcart said.
Beyond BFL both Dyson and Cathcart are preparing to trial for the West Brisbane regional team and are training to represent QLD at the 2014 National Club Titles.
