JUNIOR FUTSAL PREMIER LEAGUE: GIRLS UNDER-12
Woden Valley United 2 (Laura Hughes 9’ 37’) Woden Valley Hammers 5 (Makaylah Morales 13’, 16’, 31’, Sarah Morgan 28’, 40’)
Woden Valley Hammers claimed the glory in an exciting Girl’s under-12 Junior Futsal Premier League Grand Final with a 5-2 win over Woden Valley United at Canberra Grammar School. A hat-trick from Makaylah Morales was the highlight of a match that could have gone either way with plenty of promising Futsal talent on show. It was United who hit the front first as Laura Hughes struck the opening goal after nine minutes but that just precipitated a full-on Hammers response. Morales led the way scoring twice within three minutes around the quarter of an hour mark to give the Hammers a 2-1 lead at the interval. With the team’s knowing each other so well it was inevitable that the individual battles would be the key to success and with Ella Cusack in fine form United started the second half well. It was the Hammers who extended their lead though as Sarah Morgan made it 3-1 in the 28th minute and when Morales completed her treble just three minutes later, the writing was on the wall. Hughes pulled one back for United to set-up a potential grandstand finale but Morgan had other ideas and sealed the result in the final minute to bring to a close a top-notch encounter in which the Hammers Rhiannon Roberts was outstanding in a defensive role.

Belconnen United Blue 3 (Claudia Mitchell 10’, 36’, Mae Bailey 21’) Woden Valley United 1 (Claudia Mazey-Frankcom 15’)
Belconnen United Blue was crowned Girl’s under-14 Junior Futsal Premier League Grand Final winners with a 3-1 win over Woden Valley United at Canberra Grammar School. Whilst the Blue Devils were worthy winners they were made to work extremely hard for the victory by a resilient United team that caused them no end of problems. Indeed, Belconnen goalkeeper Eleni Haridemos was called upon to make a number of decent saves including a stunning one-handed palm over from an Annabelle Paven shot that was destined for the top corner. In an even first twenty minutes the teams traded goals to go into the break at 1-1 with Claudia Mitchell giving Belconnen the lead in the tenth minute only for Claudia Mazey-Frankcom to rifle Woden level just five minutes later. There was all to play for in the second half and both teams did their best to settle the contest. It took Belconnen just twenty seconds to hit the front, Mae Bailey picking her spot through a crowd of players to slot into the far corner. Woden threw everything at their opponents to try and force an equaliser but was hit with a sucker punch four minutes from time when Mitchell got clear and sealed the title with her second of the match.
