The Canberra City Prawns cruised into the Men’s Futsal Premier League Grand Final with another outstanding display as they brushed aside Boomerangs FS 4-0 in the semi-final. The Boomerangs started brightly and might have taken the lead as Chris Lee was denied by a superb double-save from Prawns stopper Kieran Stroh who saved initially with his feet and then made an even better stop when lying on the floor. The save was to prove vital as the Prawns took charge. Two goals within seconds from Stephen Domenici and Daniel Fulton in the 11th minute put the favourites in charge and they made certain of progress by repeating that dose just before the interval. Fulton brilliantly converted for 3-0 before Ryan Keir prodded home a rebound after a Domenici shot had come back off the post to make it four at the break. It was a similar tale in the second half even though Chris Lee pulled one back for the Boomerangs seven minutes into the half. That only seemed to incite the Prawns to up their effort though and they stormed back onto the offensive and added another five goals. Three in three minutes from Domenici and Robbie Cattanach (two) put the game out of Boomerangs reach whilst last minute strikes from Fulton, his third, and Trent Flanigan rounded out a comprehensive win.

Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves 2 (Tony Aleksovski 4’, Goran Josifovski 15’) Canberra Olympic 5 (Michael Reeve 22’, 33’, Callum Smith 26’, Misko Naumoski 32’, Tom McLachlan 39’)

A stunning second half come-back saw Canberra Olympic into the final of the Men’s Futsal Premier League with a 4-2 win over Weston-Molonglo Timberwolves. The Timberwolves just had the better of the first half leading 2-0 at the interval after working a couple of goals in what was otherwise a fairly even match. The first came in the fourth minute as the Weston-Molonglo based side created space inside the area for Tony Aleksovski to slide home from inside the area with the second five minutes from the interval as Goran Josifovski squeezed a shot inside the near post. Lukas Cole almost added a third before the break with an audacious chip from just outside his own penalty area but he was denied a wonder goal by an outstanding save from Olympic’s Angelo Konstantinou, arching backwards to push the ball over the bar. But the half-time break brought a turnaround in fortunes as whatever was said in the Olympic huddle had the desired effect. Michael Reeve brought his team back into the match only two minutes into the second half before Callum Smith equalized just four minutes later. The momentum was all with Olympic by this stage and it was no surprise when they took the lead with a well-fashioned goal, delicately finished by Misko Naumoski. Tom McLachlan sealed Olympic’s place in the final in the last minute, finishing off a slick counter with a sweeping finish into the roof of the net.
