Logo - ACT Capital Football Futsal (PNG)Boomerangs FS will aim to continue their incredible unbeaten season this week as they play the semi-finals of the competition when they face Canberra FC on Friday evening. The favourites for the trophy will face stiff opposition in the form of Canberra FC with the winner progressing to the final to play either Kids FC or Belconnen United.

Canberra FC made the four after winning their final match of the season last week as they defeated Tuggeranong United 8-1 in a one-sided match. Tuggeranong had no answer to the pace of Canberra FC for whom Rachael Goldstein was in majestic form. Goldstein netted five times to ensure her team would rack up the three points they needed and, with Weston-Molonglo El Diva losing to Boomerangs FS, secure a semi-final place. Julia De Angelis, Natalie De Marco and Nicola Orgill added the other goals with Shontelle Hellyer replying for Tuggeranong.

Weston-Molonglo El Diva needed to win their match with Boomerangs in order to make the top four but, despite giving it their best shot, fell short with the Boomerangs juggernaut marching ominously onwards towards the finals. Clare Munro did notch her fourteenth goal of the season for El Diva but goals from Ashleigh Palombi (2), Brittany Palombi, Erin Clout and Becky Roche meant that it was to no avail. Ashleigh Palombi’s double sneaked her the Golden Boot award by one-goal from her sister Brittany with Ashleigh ending the season on 32 goals.

Belconnen United ended the year in third spot and warmed up for their semi-final match with Kids FC by edging a thrilling contest with Woden Valley by 5-3. In what was a great match for the neutrals, the goals flew in at regular intervals with the action incessant. A brace from Samantha Price was added to by other goals netted by Jessica Goyne, Nicole Jalocha and Erica Weatherly whilst Hayley Armstrong, Jamie Berkeley and Sandra Hill found a way past the Blue Devils defence to strike for Woden. Berkeley ended the season with fifteen goals to her name.

Kids FC have hit their straps at the right time with two big wins to end the season against the two clubs occupying the bottom two spots on the table. Monaro Panthers was first to face the sword with goals from Laura Sofoulis, Kate Walker, Madelyn Whittall, Phoebe Worth and Samantha Wood making sure that there would be no upset and securing Kids FC semi-final place with the 5-0 win. Tuggeranong United was next to be brushed aside as Sofoulis netted four to take her personal tally for the season to eighteen and third place on the leading scorers charts in a 13-1 romp. Whittall also bagged four goals whilst Wood (2), Worth (2) and Walker completed the rout. Renae Shatzman netted a consolation to ensure that United at least got on the board.
