To kick off the final women’s round of the season saw a blockbuster open the card with 2 sides desperate for 3 points to keep in touch with Melbourne Uni at the top. A tight first half saw the sides trade blows with Richmond opening the scoring through the returning Steph Tani before Ange Durston-Ryan levelled and thats how it stayed up until half time.

The second half began in the same fasion with Tanti grabbing the first of the half for her brace, and Richmond held the lead up until the final few minutes before Ili Jakab levelled the score to keep her side in the contest. Sarah Richardson blew a chance at the lead when she missed a 5th foul penalty and with the game winding down for a draw captain Jakab stood up again when her side needed her most grabbing the winner in what will prove a big 3 points for Pascoe and a big 3 lost for Richmond.

Aside from her 2 match winning goals the Pascoe Vale skipper was superb throughout commanding the defence the way a real captain should and it payed dividend in the end helping her side to 3 points.

Heidelberg 5-6 Ashburton Women’s Futsal Club

Second game of the night saw 2 sides also desperate for points but for a different reason, both fighting for a place in the top 4 it was Ashburton who got off to the better start racing to a 4-2 half time lead.

A big second half comeback and a hat trick from Michelle Verzi had Ashburton ahead 5-4 and in line for a shock upset. It wasn’t to be though with the game on the line Leah Barrett stood up with 2 big second half goals to complete her hat trick and save her side from a defeat to keep them in touch with the top 4.

With her side struggling Barrett stood up and bagged 2 huge second half goals (including the winner) in a dominant display from arguably Ashburton’s most effective player of the season.


Vic Vipers Futsal Club 4-3 EFA Eagles Futsal Club

The final women’s game for 2013 saw two sides very close on the table take to the court to close out the year and it was close all the way up until half time with both sides locked at 2-2 at the half Smith and Benoit getting the goals for the Vipers while Stockdale and Alberti struck for the eagles.

The second half opened up with the eagles hitting the front with a goal from Stockdale to grab her brace. The Vipers who have been low on form and confidence found something inside of them to continue fighting and it payed dividend with Michelle Duffy levelling the scores and a stunner from Tina Benoit giving the struggling Vipers all 3 points.

The Vipers pocket rocket always a solid contributor tonight stood out bagging 2 match winning goals and consistently showing up for this Vipers line up and earning a well deserved MVP award.
