Luttmer drives team to futsal title (TAS)

ELI Luttmer single-handedly snared the FFT Premier League futsal title for the Taroona-based Team Sam last night, hammering home five goals to guide his side to a 7-5 win over Pigeon.

Luttmer put on a clinic, netting four of his side’s five goals by full-time to see the finalist finish at 5-5 and force an extra 10 minutes.

And the added time was where Team Sam claimed the mantle.

Luttmer netted twice in the opening six minutes of the game before Darcy Hall pulled a goal back for the South Hobart-based Pigeon in the eighth.

Pigeon’s Alex Walter levelled the scores in the 15th minute before Luttmer completed his first-half hat-trick, shooting from kick-off into the bottom corner of the goal just 10 seconds later.

With Paul Stevens out sick, Pigeon had to make do without a bigger body and Hall made it 3-3 just on the stroke of halftime.

Six minutes into the second half Team Sam took the lead when Luttmer showed his finesse with a well-placed strike to grab a fourth goal.

Team Sam then lifted its attacking tempo and pressure and looked to get on top.

However, the skill of Pigeon’s squad saw Chris Downes again level the match in the 30th.

Two minutes later Sam James struck his first of the game to again put Team Sam ahead, but just three minutes from time Downes again netted to force extra time.

And in a nail-biting finale, Luttmer completed his bag of goals in the 45th before his father Hugo Luttmer headed home to make it 7-5 two minutes from time to clinch the trophy for Team Sam.

Luttmer junior was thrilled with his five-goal haul.

He paid credit to Pigeon, which was the only team to defeat his side during the futsal competition.

“A few lucky [goals] in there I think but it was a good game, we always knew it was going to be a tough game,” Luttmer said.

“Fitness in our boys isn’t great and we just kept battling and with my old man there, he’s getting on 45 but it [was] good.”
