FNQ Futsal

Cairns United Futsal Club (FNQ Futsal) took 4 teams to this years National Futsal Championships and they performed exceptionally well with all 4 teams reaching the Quarter Finals by winning most of their Round matches, despite this the teams still needed to win their knockout matches and the the Under 10’s and 12’s did exactly that and made it through to the Grand Final, the Under 11’s and 14’s lost their Quarter Finals to some very good Futsal Sides however local player Douglas Carruthers was named one of the ALL STAR 5’s in the Under 14’s division.

The Under 10’s started strongly and played well throughout the game but they were always chasing the game against a very strong and well drilled Victoria Country side that took control of the match by scoring their first goal in the first 10 minutes of the game and and looked the better of the 2 sides, the final score in the Under 10’s Grand Final was Victoria Country – 5  vs  FNQ Cairns United – 2.

The under 12’s Grand Final was the opposite with Cairns United starting off very strong and showing their dominance of the game and taking the lead within the first few minutes of the game and where by far a much better side for the first half and 10 minuets into the second half leading 5 goals to 1, however Futsal is a very fast and unforgiving game and if you drop concentration the opposition can get some very quick goals in a matter of minutes, and that’s exactly what happened with the NSW North side scoring 4 unanswered goals in the final 10 minuets of the game to tie the match up at full time, now with Extra time Golden Goal left to play and the NSW team on a high, the Cairns side tried extremely hard to retain their title from 2013 by pushing forward and trying to get the winner, but the NSW team had other ideas and a 1 on 1 with the Cairns Goalkeeper saw the NSW team score the winner. Final Score in the U/12’s Grand Final NSW North – 6  vs FNQ Cairns United – 5

Next for the FNQ Cairns United FC teams is the 2014 North Queensland Games to be held in Townsville from the 4th to the 6th of April and then the Queensland State Futsal Titles to be held on the Gold Coast from the 19th to the 21st of April.
