Seth Telfer’s first overseas trip will be to Brazil to represent his country in futsal.
The Sandstone Point resident only started playing the sport, which is similar to outdoor soccer, in 2012 but took to it quickly.
He played in a Queensland team that took out the national schoolboys’ title in September in a gruelling 3-2 win against New South Wales Hunter.
The 14-year-old ‘keeper has played soccer for about six years but now considers futsal his main game.
“Just the pace of the game I enjoy,” he said.
“In soccer it’s a bit more quiet (as goalkeeper).”
Telfer will be part of an Australian team to tour Brazil in August, just as the country winds down from the FIFA World Cup.
He will play Brazilian teams, enjoy special training sessions and watch live top-level futsal matches on the two-and-a-half-week tour.
“It’s pretty exciting just being there I guess,” he said.
“Having the feeling of versing the Brazilian teams and seeing how their skills are different to ours (will be great).
Telfer needs $8000 to make it to Brazil. Seaclusion Cafe, on Sylvan Beach, is taking donations. You can also visit www.gofundme.com/67luk8 to donate.
