Iran has been pitted against Australia, China and Indonesia in Group B of the AFC Futsal Championship Vietnam 2014 on Saturday.
Ten-time AFC Championship winner Iran is in Group B along with Australia, China and Indonesia.
Host Vietnam has been drawn in Group A along with Kuwait, Tajikistan and Iraq.
Last edition’s runner-up Thailand is in Group C along with Lebanon, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia.
Title-holder Japan has been drawn in Group D with Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Korea Republic.
Iran is scheduled to play Indonesia on April 30. The ten-time AFC Championship winner will face China and Indonesia on May 2 and 4 respectively.
“Iran has been drawn in an easy group. We’re happy since Iran will not face Asian powerhouses Japan and Thailand before the final match,” head of Iran’s Futsal Committee Reza Eftekhari said.
The top three ranked teams from the previous edition — Japan, Thailand and Iran — qualified automatically to the finals while the Vietnamese qualified as hosts. The other 12 teams qualified from their respective qualifying zones, AFC wrote.
A total of 16 teams will participate in the showdown, which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 30 April to 10 May.
