Campbelltown have the most number of teams represented at the big show being held at Dural Sport & Leisure Centre with five Quake grand finalists (Open Men, Open Women, Youth Men, 16 Boys, 12 Boys), ahead of Inner West Magic (16 Girls, 14 Boys, 14 Girls, 12 Girls), Mascot Vipers (16 Boys, 16 Girls, 14 Boys) and Mountain Majik (14 Girls, 12 Boys, 12 Girls), while Dural Warriors have two (Open Men, Youth Men) and Enfield Rovers one (Open Women).

Quake rumble Boomerangs

Campbelltown Quake marched into next week’s grand final against Dural Warriors with a convincing 5-1 rumble of Boomerangs in the preliminary final at Ryde Sports & Community Centre.

The first half was intense as Campbelltown hung onto a tight 2-1 halftime edge but they showed great maturity against an undermanned Boomerangs side to wear down their opponents in the second term and race away with a 5-1 win, veteran Mark Symington bagging a brace supported by goals from Jordan Mundell, Shayne Ardle and Harley Da Silva.

Campbelltown now face the daunting task of trying to topple competition Goliaths Dural in the grand final being held at Dural Sports & Leisure Centre – a venue the Warriors have lost just two games in 24 outings.

Quake are on a roll of their own, losing just one of the past 12 games, and manager Carlos Martinez thanked Boomerangs for a solid workout ahead of the grand final match.

“Well, we’re there and were pretty happy about that,” he said. “Boomerangs were a little understrength and defended deep to spoil us and get us on the counter, and we found it very hard to break them down – the first half was a real arm wrestle.”

“At halftime we talked about being patient and waiting until they got tired and we scored three to settle it. It wasn’t an easy 5-1 win but it keeps our momentum going and reinforces what we’ve been working on all year.”
