MU – M.Edgerton-Bachman 4, G.Kim 4, E.Gunn 2, M.Marques 2

To kick off round 2 newly formed FC Carlton took on Melbourne Uni, It looked like a whitewash on paper but Carlton held their own in the opening exchanges trailing just 4-0 at the break on the back of a Edgerton-Bachman hat trick.

Unfortunately they could not sustain the Melbourne attack as Uni ran riot banging in 8 second half goals to grab their first win of the season in convincing fashion as they look to propel themselves to their first V-League title. As for Carlton they will take some time to adjust to the league but after 2 stright 10+ Goals defeat manager Nathan Teese has it all to do in the coming weeks.

Player Of The Game – Maya Edgerton-Bachman (Melbourne Uni FC)

Since joining from Ashburton Bachman has been a brilliant addition to the Melbourne side adding another avenue to goal and will play a big role going forward.

2014 PEPSI Women’s WVLP Round 2 RESULT: Brunswick Futsal Club 0-6 Ashburton Women’s Futsal ClubCFB –
ASH – A.Gummer 3, D.Petreska, L.Barrett, E.Hubbard

Second game on the card saw newly formed CF Brunswick take on a rejuvenated Ashburton side. With a few new additions to the side Ashburton looked a class above Brunswick but the bloods sat back and absorbed the pressure well but still fell behind 3-0 thanks to a double from Alexandra Gummer and 1 to Leah Barrett capping off a big first half showing.

The second half was much of the same Ashburton blowing countless chances but were thoroughly on top of their opposition, None the less they managed to put another 3 past Brunswick to kill off the game and record their biggest ever win in the league which takes their record to 2 from 2 as they continue to build confidence going forward. As for Brunswick their first official game ended in disappointment but they could take plenty away as they look to strengthen the squad as the season progresses.

Player Of The Game – Alexandra Gummer (Ashburton FC)

Playing in only her second game Gummer was the standout once again bagging a hat trick and looking a constant threat to the opposition defence, She will certainly be a big threat when the bigger sides come knocking on Ashburton’s door but with 4 goals in 2 games you would think she is up for the challenge.

2014 PEPSI Women’s WVLP Round 2 RESULT: Fitzroy Futsal Club 2-1 Pascoe Vale Futsal ClubFITZ – J.Browne, N.Rooney
PV – C.Drinoczkiy

Next game on the card saw a severely understrength Fitzroy take on FOz Cup Champions Pascoe Vale. In what was expected to be a blowout Fitzroy stood tall even though they had just 5 players the Fitzroy girls dug deep and somehow jumped out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Juliette Browne and Natasha Rooney giving Fitzory a shock 2 goal halftime lead.

The message was clear for the second half Fitzroy would settle for what they had and look to just play down the mintues. It worked for a long time despite Pascoe’s dominance they were wasteful in front of goal until the final 2 minutes when Chloe Drinoczkiy got one back to keep Pascoe in the contest. There were still a few chances from Pascoe Vale but Fitzroy managed to hold on for a famous victory.

Player Of The Game – Liesl Woods (Fitzroy FC)

Woods was a standout tonight, Special mention must go to Fitzroy keeper Diarna Cartwright as she put in a huge effort between the sticks but Woods was at her best tonight, Commanding the defence and fuelling the odd attack going forward she played a huge part in the win over the current FOz Cup champs.

2014 PEPSI Women’s WVLP Round 2 RESULT: FC Richmond (Futsal Club) 3-2 Vic Vipers Futsal ClubThe final game of round 2 saw Champions Richmond take on a struggling Vic Vipers. With both sides down on numbers it made for an interesting affair on the court and a tight first half saw a solitary goal from Richmond’s Melinda Aloisio giving Richmond a slender first half lead.

Vipers came out swinging in the second half and pulled a goal back through first gamer Nichole Paul to get her side back into the game. It didn’t last long though as Kariah White put Richmond ahead once again with a back post finish before Azize Erenli gave Richmond a priceless 2 goal advantage which virtually sealed the points. Bianca Lavorgna grapped a late goal to keep Vipers in it but it was to little to late as Richmond hung on for a hard fought victory.

Player Of The Game – Azize Erenli (FC Richmond)

Erenli has come along in leaps and bounds in the last few weeks, As well as sporting the captains armband Erenli’s confidence is sky high going into next week’s FAFL Cup.
