In a matter of months, Blaxland Futsal player Jeremy Reed has hit the big time and he’ll represent Australia on a youth Futsal team overseas in November.

The talented 16-year-old’s goalkeeping skills were noticed in February at the Australian Futsal Association national titles, where he was asked to play goalie for NSW City West.

And only four months earlier, he’d been asked to go goalie for the U16s Western Wolves team, a representative Futsal side in western Sydney.

Prior to this Jeremy had played football at a local level for Blaxland Redbacks and this year he joined Blue Mountains Football Club.

Impressed national selectors: Jeremy Reed will represent Australia on a youth Futsal team touring Spain and the UK in November.

“I used to be a defender then a striker. Only last year I went goals,” Jeremy said.

“I went in goals for a school tournament once and I liked it. It’s quite fun trying to stop goals. It’s a challenge to stop them.”

Western Wolves coach Paul Brown said Jeremy had a lot of potential in goals.

“We threw him into the deep end in state league and he never let us down. He’s very calm and collected,” Brown said.

“He could go places, he’s definitely got the talent. He’s very good for his first year playing [in goals].”

Jeremy will tour and play competition matches in Spain and the UK in November. To help cover costs for his trip he has a fundraising page: www.gofundme.com/jeremy-to- play-futsal- in-spainuk
